It’s made for trailers up to 26 foot. Narrow and winding roads. I was lucky to find a place I could turn around.

Came here for days in early September since the wildfire smoke was bad in SD. Electric and water at campsite. You really need to look at the map to determine which way you want to enter the park. There are many campgrounds, and all can be accessed by Lakeside drive or Skyline drive. If you are going to be on skyline drive, I would strongly suggest entering by the main entrance at Guernsey. There is a north entrance but it is twisting and not recommended for vehicles over 40 ft. The lake was full and good. The landscape is amazing with gorgeous sunsets from the Castle. FYI there are some very steep roads on skyline. I have a F350 Dually and pulling my 5th wheel up those hills was a chore. Go outside at night and you won’t believe the amount of stars in a dark sky unspoiled by light pollution. See how many constellations you can identify! You can see the Milky Way overhead. Our site was about as close to the train as possible. It didn’t bother me. I sleep with the fan on for white noise.

Worst State Park Experience Yet... Not totally the fault of WY State Parks that the lake was drained but they should have better explained on their site and follow-up emails that there is nothing but a big ditch now, not a lake.
Partially our fault getting to park after hours but there are no signs to Sand Point campground. As soon as you enter the Park there is a sign on your left to Sandy Beach with Sandy Point under it (both very small) but no mention of campgrounds. There are no subsequent signs until you reach Sandy Beach campground. At Sandy Beach, there is a road to the left that has no sign that ultimately reaches Sandy Point campground. When you reach the Sandy Point campground, there is little signage directing you to the proper site.
Accordingly, with the lack of the park's main feature, there were only 4 or 5 campers that we saw in the 185 campsites. Usually this would be a bonus but with the park's remoteness, no lighting, and no park official presence, there was a safety concern. Also, yes trains come through often and sound like thunder. No whistles or horns but they stop on the track and idle at times. Sounded like large open frame contractor generator in the site next to you :(
We booked 2 nights but only stayed one. No refund available.
If there was a lake, site 81 would be a good site with a fairly level and long pull through with lake view on patio side.

We camped in Guernsey State Park at Sandy Point. We were told ahead of time that the reservoir had been drained so we weren't surprised to find that our lake front site was a little underwhelming. The campground is clean and the vaulted toilets are nice enough. The electric hookups worked great and the site was level. We did not have to unhitch the camper and that was good. We did not explore the park except to walk down to the water so we can't comment much on what's there. It was too hot to do much hiking. Wish they had showers at the campground! I should have read the information more thoroughly. There is a train that goes through the campground but there is no crossing so it's not really very loud. It was actually kind of cool.

Beware, Guernsey Reservoir is empty. The N Platte River runs though what would be the reservoir. At Sandy Point campground, it’s 200 yards to the river, through some thick mud. Nothing on the state booking website said this. Very disappointing!
Just a few other brave campers present, but most campsites are empty.

There are a few handicap sites that are all concrete. Now that covid is here you MUST reserve your spot but there were plenty.
We have a 36’ camper and had plenty of room for our truck and camper. There is a train but it didn’t bother us at all.

The problem is there is a train track right next to the campgrounds which are very active. If you are tent camping, I would have to say this is not good. In out TaB, it was fine in the Sandy Beach campground which has a natural barrier between us and the train. The other campgrounds would not be so lucky.
So, if you are in a camper and stay in Sandy Beach, all is well. Otherwise, no joy.

OK for an overnight. We wanted elec in case we needed a/c early Sept which we did. Dry camping sites along reservoir near trees, but elec sites just all in a row on a gravel parking lot. VERY dusty, no privacy or shade. Flush toilets clean enough. No showers. Trains nearby but didn’t bother us (I wore earplugs just in case).

We asked the Ranger about it, and he told us they were doing target practice about a mile away! Well that was too close for comfort so after 2 days of target practice we couldn't take it anymore so we hitched up and left.
