Greensboro KOA

We called 40 minutes to office close and able to get a spot after getting stopped in traffic yesterday. Spot was decent with some grass. Did not use any amenities. Nearby brewery : pig pounder was good just an FYI! Also close gas station at the end of the road. Convenient on and off hwy. hwy is right behind the campground so as long as you’re not looking for a quiet campground or hwy sounds don’t bother you not a bad stop. Campground itself was very quiet. Nothing super special about the lots but a good overnight spot for sure.

This is the second time we’ve camped here. It’s convenient off the highway but campground doesn’t reflect the price!!

We paid $95 (similar to the last time we stayed too) and it’s just not worth it.

The playground is nice. That’s it.

We paid for a pull through full hookup, so we could stay hooked up. We couldn’t because the hook ups are in the middle of the site. We have an end site but it looks like we’re in the over flow lot. Between us and the road is overgrown.

Not to mention, every hook up had overgrown grass around them. our dog had been sniffing and before we could catch him, he was near it. We grabbed him quick, and as soon as he was inside he had a tick on his ear. I have Lyme and we take a lot of precautions, but this grassy area is 3 feet from our front door.

The sites are skinny, hardly any room for the truck, and dirty tables. the noise from the highway is loud, and it is far from a lot of food and things to do, one gas station near by.

I never write bad reviews but this one is not worth the price tag.

I find it unbelievable that KOA gave this campground a 2021 award. The campground was worn looking with sites closer than even the typically KOA. The water and sewer hookups are with a foot of each other which seems incredible unsanitary, especially since not all the sewer hookups have covers and the water spigot was tilted toward the ground and looked like it would fall over it it was bumped.

The access roads seemed narrower than typical for KOA to me as well. And that is saying something in my opinion.

Like many reviewers mentioned the road noise is very loud. Definitely the loudest I have ever experienced. Usually, when I see someone mention the highway noise I just shrug my shoulders. I never hear anything when I am in the trailer with the A/C and tv on. That wasn't the case at this campground, but fortunately highway noise doesn't bother my sleep. We didn't get offered ear plugs like some reviewers.

After we arrived and attempted to use the restroom we were told they were closed because of COVID. My wife said there was no mention of this when she booked and we didn't get any sort of updates on this. And it wasn't mentioned when we checked in. I do see a notice pop up now when you go to the KOA site.

I think this is a little ridiculous, most restrooms in public spaces are still open. I feel like this was just an attempt to get out of cleaning because the cost. Which is especially crazy given how much this campground charges because they have little in the way of amenities to justify the cost.

It is still a very busy campground because of how close to the highway it is, so a lot of overnighters. We stayed two nights because we couldn't get into our next campground.

On a positive note the wi-fi and cell signal was good.

My experience with Journey's are they are usually 10 -15 dollars cheaper a night than this one. So I strongly advise looking elsewhere.

Moved here in November with the intentions of staying long term. Which we told to 2 different employees. One when we made the reservation and another one just days before our arrival when she called to ask us how long we would be staying. In January we were told the rate for our cramped site was going up to $850 a month. And in 2 months we would have to pay the daily rate which comes to $1350. We would not moved here if we had been given the correct information. But I am pretty sure that we weren't told that it wasn't a long term campground because they had a lot of empty spots in November. I think they neglected to tell us so they could fill a spot and make money. Or else all of the staff is incompetent. If you plan on staying be aware that they charge 17 cents kwh. You will be paying a lot for electricity. The noise from the interstate is constant and loud. The dryers are kind of ineffective. People come from outside the campground and use the dumpsters so at times it is overflowing. The manager is snippy and rude sometimes when you go to get the mail. One day you can come in and get it and then next day you are reprimanded for opening the door. Which has a sign that says to come on in. Best to find somewhere else to stay. Unless tight quarters, rudeness and noise are your thing.

We stayed in site #18, which was a FHU pull-through. The site was fairly level, but quite short. Not enough room for us to keep our truck in front of our pop-up, which is what we look for in quick overnight stops. Also, it was a bit of a walk to the bath house, even though I specifically requested a site close to the bath house when I booked the reservation 8 months prior.

Bath house was ok. It was clean enough, but you could tell it was extremely old, and needed to be completely redone instead of just painted over. That was the general theme for much of the campground; very old, not particularly attractive or welcoming, and in need of a face-lift. The laundry room, however, was very nice, clean, and well-lit. I believe they only recently converted to a KOA, so it seemed like they were in the middle of some needed capital improvements. Still not worth the KOA prices at this time, in my opinion. Had a minor customer service issue at check-in, but decided the annoyance wasn't worth making a big deal so I got over it pretty quickly. Additionally, they closed the office at 7pm, which I found out when I went back to get some change for laundry after we set up. Being that this is a KOA Journey, one of the supposed features of this designation is extended office/check-in hours for travelers coming in for overnight stops, so I was surprised by this. However, the owners ended up pulling up right then to check on something in the office, and they very graciously agreed to get me some change while they were in there.

One other item of note: this CG is located right off I-40, which is very convenient, but the road noise is loud and constant. I had already expected this from reading other reviews, and they did make a bowl of free, disposable ear plugs available in the office, which was a nice gesture. The combination of the said ear plugs and exhaustion from a long day on the road allowed me to sleep pretty well, but if you’re at all sensitive to noise, it would be a deal-breaker.

It seems Greensboro offers all modern conveniences, and lots of things to do, but we didn’t explore beyond the CG.

Overall, this was an OK overnight stop for us between the Smokies and OBX (an almost perfect halfway point). Location is very convenient to the highway if you can handle the road noise. I wouldn’t stay here for more than a night, and honestly, if we were to take the same trip again, I’d likely look for a quieter (and certainly cheaper) option, even if it meant going a few miles out of the way.

We stayed on night for a concert at the Greensboro Coliseum. It served the purpose, but it isn't a place that we'd like to stay long term. Very close to the highway with tight spaces. Bathrooms are clean, and they let you come and go as you please which is important for late-night concerts. The only real choice in the area if you want to spend the evening in Greensboro, but it's location is perfect if you are hitting the town.

This campground recently became a KOA (daily rate reflects the Value Kard discount of 10%), and is the only campground in Greensboro. The owners were very accommodating, and the restrooms were clean. Even though the campground is located right next to I-40, we weren't bothered with traffic noise at night, We prefer campsites with more space and privacy, but were happy enough to have this one so close to the city.
