We visited Dinosaur National Monument in October while staying in a campground in Vernal, Utah. One of our day trips to DNM involved a drive through of Green River Campground. There were very few people camped there during the week when we drove through the nicely maintained and beautiful campground. The Cottonwoods were showing off their fall colors too.
While we didn't camp there, this campground is a great first come, first served spot during this time of year.

Quick summary: There are 3 loops, A, B and C. A & B are reservable; C is first come / first serve (FFS).
Loop A= 1 to 21
Loop B= 23 to 41
Loop C= 56 to 83
There is a restroom in each loop. It isn't a problem like on reviewer stated. Camp sites are often occupied by 2 people and many with RVs don't darken the doorway of the restroom. Maintenance is fairly good. Maintenance staff is short-handed.
During my stay here, we had as few as 15 open available sites and as many as 65. So, it was never totally full July - Aug 2023.
Any reservable site that has an OPEN placard is also available (FFS) for one (1) night only. An open site in FFS is one without a yellow tag (and of course no equipment on it). After paying, place the tag on site post, if not sure what to do find a Camp Host Sites #22 or #40
Pay at the Kiosk using cash or US bank check... and you can also pay at the front gate using credit card (when attendant is there.. usually 9am to 5pm). Pay on your way in if you don't have cash.
Price is $18 per night or $9 per night with an interagency pass
Firewood is available near the entrance ($7 per bundle - a private concessionaire operates this during the season)
Cell service: AT&T or T-Mobile works, Verizon is a no-go. My booster didn't help.
Potable water is available at the restrooms... jugs or bottles.. no hose hook up
No electricity
No dump station on site. Go to Outlaw RV park on Highway 40 for that. Filling fresh tanks there, as well.
Restrooms have flush toilets and sink, drinking fountain and water fill outside
You can move to another available site, just let the Camp Host know so placards can be moved
The reservation website covers lengths so I won't go into that.
Best sites when its hot (over 100 when I arrived) is those with afternoon shade. It does cool off at night starting in August. In my opinion, the best reservable is #1 in Loop A, then #80 in FFS loop C... but #63, #73 and #81 (all Loop C) are also pretty nice.
Sites with zero (or nearly no) shade. 4, 5, 25, 26, 28, 29, 31, 33, 34, 37, 43, 48, 51, 52, 54, 56, 57, 60, 62, 65, 70, 78, and finally 79.
Some have a little afternoon shade; possibly late in afternoon like 42, 44, 46, 47, 49, 50, 53, 55, 58, 74, 76, 77, and 81. A few sites have the advantage of river side such as 8, 9, 10, 25, 27, 72, 74, 77, 80, 81, 83.

The restrooms are rarely clean and suffer chronic plumbing problems. Our loop has 27 sites and they allow 8 people per site, that’s 216 people to utilize a single restroom. On several occasions we have experienced large groups of campers who camp here instead of at the nearby group campground at Split Mountain.

All the sites seemed flat and nice spacing, not too close together. The River Trail to Split Mountain Is interesting. We’re novice birdwatchers and spotted 18 different species. The Visitors Center Is well worth a stop.

We camped here in our camper van. We were in loop A and it was first come first serve here in October. The restroom has a flush toilet and a sink. There are good hiking trails in this park. The visitor center and quarry were very interesting. There is not a way to fill a freshwater tank or dump here. We were headed south and ended up dumping and refilling at the Fruita welcome center. This is a good dark sky area for stargazing. Our only real complaint would be that several folks ran generators much of the day even though air conditioners were not needed. It does not appear that any of the loops are generator free.

Nice campground but once you are set up you are stuck, there is absolutely nothing to do and only one trail. Host was not friendly but in all fairness it was the last week of the season and he may have just been worn out and ready to leave.

There aren't many trees on the loop to the left as you pull in, so it was getting pretty toasty in my RV by check out! Close to the river, I had my morning coffee sitting on a bench overlooking it. Pretty location in a green valley surrounded by hills and rock.
Cell access varies by site from 2 to 3 bars. I used T-mobile with a booster and had no issues working. I could not get Verizon to work even though it showed 2 and sometimes 3 bars.

The A and B loops can be reserved and there is a C loop that is first-come. There were few spots on the C loop that we could fit. Loop B has a good many larger sites that our fifth wheel could accommodate. The hosts in the mornings put out “one night only” signs on the posts on loops A and B to allow campers to stay in those sites for the night and use the self-registration box. Found out that many campers choose to “no show” in this campground instead of canceling. There are many empty spots each night that are “reserved”. Turns out that with the senior rate it is actually cheaper to “no show” than to cancel your reservation.
The campground has no dump or RV water fill. There are flush bathrooms, water spigots, and dumpsters at each. The nearby town of Vernal has at least two dump stations.
It was nice to camp next to the Green River and the area in general is beautiful. If you have time, the Harper’s Corner road and trail are wonderful. Also the 12 mile dirt road to Echo Park to see the Steamboat Rock is worth doing.
Paid senior rate of $9.
In June, it can be hot and we decided to stay only two days and go find locations with higher elevation.

We were at Green River Campground over Memorial Day weekend. Even at full capacity, the campground was very quiet at night!
We have a Starlink so had great internet service.
There is no water fill up or dump station at Green River. We filled our water jugs at the potable water spigot by the bathroom to put in our tanks. When we left, we stopped at Outlaw Trail RV Park and paid $10 to use their dump station.
Dogs are welcome in the camping area however the only hiking trail Murphy could go with us on was the River Trail. The River Trail is an out and back trail following the river over to the Split Mountain Group camping area.
