Grassy Flat Campground

Vault toilet / no water / no bathroom sink / no shower / table / fire pit / easy access / high shade.

The campground is on the edge of the Smith River. The place is well maintened and clean. Arrived early: all campgrounds around are more expansive, so the 20 sites are quickly full if you didn't reserved. Depending on the place you have, it missing a bit of privacy. The river with a pebble beach is just below: there is a natural pool, it' a nice place to swim!

Perfect place to visit the Smith River Area, Jedediah Smith Redwwod and the Oregon Cave.

After bypassing several other campgrounds on my way to the California coast, I stopped in at Grassy Flat Campground for one night. It's located in Six Rivers National Forest, with walking access to the nearby river. It was easy to secure an inexpensive walk up site, as the campground wasn't yet full at mid-afternoon. My site had adequate space for parking, a picnic table under the shade of trees and a fire ring. Pit toilets (pretty clean!) were conveniently located in the center of the campground. Note that there is NOT water available at the campground, so bring your own.

The camp host was attentive, friendly and informative. My campsite was large and nicely flat for setting up a tent. Although there was some noise from the highway during the day, it became fairly quiet in the evening.

All in all, this was a nice little campground.
