The host can really make or break a campsite like this and the host here is one of the best. He’s friendly, takes meticulous care of the sites and ensures the restrooms are beyond pleasant (a tall order for pit toilets). The campsites were so clean we allowed our kids to run around barefoot with no concern for unexpected glass or metal in the dirt. He also gave us great tips for off the beaten path stops that made our trip a memorable one.
The trails around were also a nice way to spend time in the campsite. The views of the falls were beautiful. Being in the woods and near water of course it will be buggy but proper bug prevention works fine. The sites are spread out and very private, and quiet even though it’s not far off the scenic highway.
The location is really ideal for fishing, visiting Island Park, Upper Mesa Falls visitors center and even up to Yellowstone. Like many people we met there on our visit, we will be returning again to this little gem.
(This review is delayed, we were there 7/15 for 3 nights).

Gorgeous and quiet camp spot despite being off the scenic byway. You can easily walk down to the Lower Mesa Falls observation point from the campground, and Upper Falls are a 5 minute drive. Great to have electric at the site. Vault toilets were very clean and camp host did a great job. Apply big spray often and enjoy this campground!

I stopped here for one night and snagged the last spot in the campground (it was the double site, but the camp host gave me the single price). This place is great - the camp host keeps it immaculate, the sites are mostly level and very private, it's a short walk to the viewpoint for Lower Mesa Falls and a great trail going downstream. There is no view of the river from the campsites, and no river access, but the trail is very close for viewing. There is a significant cliff next to the trail (if, hypothetically, you were to have your dog off-leash on the trail...), but it is uncrowded and good for wildlife viewing. The prior review mentions the potential of walking to Upper Mesa Falls, but I don't think you can do that, at least not on a trail. There is a great visitor center and viewing area for Upper Mesa Falls that you can drive to, and a (very lightly used) short trail from Upper Mesa to Lower Mesa Falls, but it does not intersect with the trail from this campground. It is worth doing, as it is lovely and gets you much closer to Lower Mesa Falls.

So much beauty in this little area. It was a small quiet campground And just what we needed after visiting the crowded national parks. We made a stop here on our way from Yellowtone to Stanley My niece and I both decided it was our favorite stay. While we were there we went into the nearby town of Ashton and watched the local Fourth of July parade. We also let the kids do a little bit of tubing on the Warm River. Of course, we made stops at lower and upper Mesa Falls. The lower Falls can be accessed directly at the campground. The upper falls are even more spectacular. We realized later that we could’ve walked there from the campground, but we drove the mile and enjoyed our visit to them very much. We probably spent about 2 hrs there and definitely could’ve lingered even longer if we had the time. We had a double site with two RVS. A 28ft and 32ft plus two tow vehicles. 9 people ages 5-65. Didn’t use the bathrooms but the campground was very clean, quiet, and the host was friendly and kept to himself.
