The area has a stark beauty with lots of very impressive rock formations. The nearby Goose Creek Trail has excellent hiking and backpacking opportunities. Quality of campsites along the road can be hit and miss, most are in small stands of trees that survived the 2002 Hayman fire. Camping is in designated sites only. The site... more

It wasn’t too far off of the paved road to get to these sites, maybe 20 minutes. There are minimal trees surrounding the campsites and we weren’t sure if the constant high winds were a contributing factor or not. There are no hookups which we were ok with, this is a tent type of environment but we got our smaller trailer in there...n... more

Lots of camping sites along the FS road to get to this location, but if you want the trailhead, there is a large(5spot) camping area and horse unload just 1/4 mile shy of the parking lot.
