Overview of Gold Park Campground
Bear activity has been increasing. For this reason a food storage order is in effect at all developed campgrounds on the Eagle/Holy Cross Ranger District, and the Piney Guard Station, Tigiwon Lodge, Mount of the Holy Cross Overlook, Homestake Road FSR 703, and Nolan Creek Road. This order requires all food and refuse to be stored in hard-sided vehicles, approved bear-resistant containers, or suspended at least 10 feet clear of the ground at all points and four feet horizontally from any supporting tree or pole.

Camped here early July 2020. Pretty campground amongst the pines. Decent space between sites, and fairly level sites. No running water! We collected water from the stream and filtered it. We camped here as a base camp to go hike the Missouri Lake Trail. I would only camp here again if we wanted to hike in the Holy Cross Wilderness area some more. This is because the drive in is 7 miles of the worst washboard road I've ever been on. It is rough on your rig. There is no cell service here. It is far too remote.
But it was a great place to use as a base camp when accessing the trails near by in the Holy Cross Wilderness area.
Not great for solar power because of all the beautiful trees in the campground.
If you are here drive another mile up the road to the Missouri and Fancy pass Trail Head. The Missouri trail is fantastic. 3.6 miles in to the lake Missouri. You will gain 1,500' of elevation to peak out at 11,500'. We left our rig at the campground and tent camped one night at the lake. It was an awesome experience. Hiked back down the next day and stayed one more night at Gold Park Campground.

Campground was fairly busy on the weekend but cleared out during the weekdays. Could hear the creek running as we slept. Nice bathrooms, trash services and spacious camp sites. Bear lockers, fire rings and picnic tables at each site. Aside from not having water services, it’s still a great campground. Close to lots of hiking and fishing.
Angelica would stay here again
