“Clean, beautiful landscape.”

This campground is beautiful for the Saguaro National Forest. It is lush with Saguaro, prickly pear and other sticky plants I don’t know the names of. My dog and I enjoyed walking the various trails that are accessible from the campground-we didn’t drive the van for three days! Heaven. The campground and restrooms were very clean. I ha... more

“Nice stopover in the desert ”

Reviewed Nov 04, 2018

Beautiful campground carved out in the Sonoran desert. Sites are a tad close, and bathrooms are spread out (no showers) but thick vegetation mostly screens you from neighbors. There are a few tent only sites as well. All of the sites back right onto desert and you can stroll out if you dodge the cacti. Stars and sunset were nice but no... more

The beauty of this place was unexpected. We are from Michigan and it was like we were on another planet. You are camping in the middle of the beautiful desert Saguaro National Park, there are so many (prickly) plants around you. You never have to worry about anyone walking through your campsite (too many cactus, plants that look da... more

“Perfect Sonoran Desert Setting!”

Reviewed Apr 29, 2018

There is not a lot I can say that hasn’t already been said. This campground is a beautiful setting in the heart of the Sonoran Desert. We had no trouble getting a great spot and never saw the campground at complete capacity. I suspect the lines that were written about in previous reviews were during “high time” which likely correlat... more

I hate to write this review. Why? Because this campground is so wonderful and empty and quiet. I want to keep it all to myself! Just outside Tucson, Gilbert Ray campground is a hidden gem. Well, maybe not. There are too many sites (almost 70 in our loop) for it to be as unknown as “hidden gem” implies, but right now, in April, i... more

“Have to line up by 8am to get a spot here!”

I tried for two days to get into this campground. I drove through and yes, it looks amazing, especially for the price! Some of the sites are a bit tight looking and close together though. But I felt I had to leave a heads up for people hoping to camp here. I tried first on a Thursday but NO VACANCY by the time I arrived around 4pm. O... more

Lots of desert, lots of dark, love it. Slow internet for me on Verizon. No showers, easy dump station, no water at site but easy access throughout park for water. My site took 3 tiles to level and I saw some of the other sites had the same difficulty but overall a very great place to stay. Especially love the that the Desert Museum... more

This is such a great campground. Beautiful scenery, paved roads, gravel sites. Be a bit careful when choosing a site, as some are not angled very well for backing.
