“Spacious sites and 30amp electric to help keep things cool. Easy access to a variety of activities! ”

Reviewed Mar 31, 2019

Overall Rating

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gilbert Ray. Be aware of the stay limits – only 7 days in and then 7 days out before you can return. The staff, volunteers and camp hosts were all very friendly and helpful. The sites are nicely spaced and several are large enough to accommodate big rigs, we especially liked having vegetation between ... more

“Close to Trails, Desert Museum, National Park”

Reviewed Mar 25, 2019

Overall Rating

We stayed in a tent site for $10/night. Check-in is done at the office, and they select a site for you. Our site fit our big gazebo tent and our xterra with plenty of wiggle room. We showed up right at checkout time (11am) to secure a spot, which payed off because the campground was full every night except for the last night we were th... more

“Close to Saguaro NP West”

Reviewed Feb 11, 2019

Overall Rating

This is a clean, well kept campground very close to Saguaro NP West. It has water, a dump station, recycling, and hookups for an affordable price of $20/night. Bathrooms are clean. Gravel, fairly level sites.

“So great! ”

The first time we stayed in Tucson we stayed at Free BLM land nearby which we didn’t like. So happy we found this place! First come first serve with electricity and a dump with access to water. The surroundings are beautiful. Location is great. 5 mins from the Desert Museum, Saguaro National Park, and Old Tucson with trails leading fro... more

“Loved this place!! Definitely a must if in the area.”

Reviewed Jan 19, 2019

Came on January 18th, a Friday afternoon. First come, first serve and they do not take any reservations. Read some other reviews that there was a line out of the place to get it. Don't let that scare you.. we did not experience this at all during the holiday weekend. I am sure it does get busy, but that is the luck of the draw. Cash... more

“Manicured”

Reviewed Jan 17, 2019

Overall Rating

Bathrooms are clean. The campground is usually quiet during the day, very quiet at night. The staff are friendly. The place has a manicured feel to it.

If you have Consumer Cellular coverage using T-Mobile count on zero to 2 bars, slow texting, hardly any internet access using your phone as a hotspot.

“Not impressed ”

Reviewed Jan 14, 2019

Out of the way on rough, narrow roads. Not worth the trip. Sites are on top of each other and not flat. I came based on the 5 star review, but not real sure the reviews were verified. This is a county that wants to attract tourists, but won’t put water to the sites. The electrical boxes are 4-5” off the ground so be sure your 30 AMP co... more

This campground is beautiful for the Saguaro National Forest. It is lush with Saguaro, prickly pear and other sticky plants I don’t know the names of. “Nice stopover in the desert ”

Reviewed Nov 04, 2018

Beautiful campground carved out in the Sonoran desert. Sites are a tad close, and bathrooms are spread out (no showers) but thick vegetation mostly screens you from neighbors. There are a few tent only sites as well. All of the sites back right onto desert and you can stroll out if you dodge the cacti. Stars and sunset were nice but no... more
