Georgia Veterans State Park

We spent 2 nights in spot #53 which is a nice long pull thru on the end with 30 amp and water. We really enjoyed our stay. Miles of hiking trails that are bike friendly. Lake front sites where you can pull your boat right to your site or launch your kayaks. The road along the lakefront campsites is tight for big rigs but very doable. Fish were getting caught from campsites and on the bridge by the check in office. The park has an enormous field in the middle that we were lucky enough to see 2 hot air balloons launch! Unbelievable! My 2 night stay went from $110 to $82 with my veterans discount. Thank you Georgia!

Stayed here Easter Weekend 2022. It was well-occupied, but not 100% full based on actual shows to reservations. Stayed at Primitive Site #3. All 5 primitive, tent spots were in a row and about 15 ft from each other so there would not be a lot of privacy between neighbors; however, only Primitive Sites 2 and 3 were occupied when I was there. Vehicular access is blocked so you have to park and bring your stuff to the site. The closest site is #1 and #5 is the farthest away. #1 would be a 15 second walk from the parking area (dirt parking within trees). #5 would be < 1 min walk from the parking area.

All sites were well-maintained, and the primitive sites were nestled in woods, but through the woods you can see a little bit of the pull-through RV sites. Overall, it was a mostly quiet area. You can hear some distance music from RV folks playing music loudly. The only negative was this constant animal (bird? frogs? insect?) chirping throughout the night! It was so only one animal, and not a chorus, but it was loud. It was hard to sleep. Not sure if the critter would be there all the time though!

We stayed here at the end of December, 2021. Needed to find a place in this area for NYE, so grabbed a site here. I think the price is high, as we were paying less at other state parks. I was told anytime there is a golf course attached to the park, it is privately run, hence the higher price. Our site was across the street from the lake, but right next to the entry to the tent area so had a lot of space to the aft end and in front of our trailer, which was really nice! The lake side sites were mostly nice, but some were right on top of each other. The nicest lakefront sites are 19 to 27 (25, 26 & 27 nice and pull thrus). Sites 5 to 13 were a bit close to each other for us. In the loop across the street, the sites are far enough off the road that the interaction between dogs could be avoided. All LONG pull thrus exept 75, 76 & 77. The military exhibit (outdoors - we didn't do the inside one) was very interesting and walking the dog around was great - lots of areas to walk. We didn't have time to do the trails, but I did do a load of laundry, and I think it was FREE! Definitely needed the park map to find the campground - ha ha! I know we had T-Mobile coverage, but not sure the bars.

My dad and I found this campground at the last minute and it had availability. If you have a choice go for the lakefront spots as those look great. We both appreciated that he got a Veteran discount too.

There were lots of RVs but the grounds were quiet, with very clean bathrooms, and helpful staff. We arrived after 5pm so the campground office was closed but some staff saw us wondering around and helped us out make a reservation (online works too). We learned that we could have called the golf course part of the park after hours (the number ending in x1230) and they could have helped us 24 hours).
I would have liked better signage to find the campground part of the park, but since the campground folks were willing to drive us right up to our camping spot, I couldn’t have asked for more. I would have like time to boat, fish, hike, and relax as the grounds look beautiful, but we didn’t have time. Would be worth coming back though.
Their wireless worked well for us.

Our campsite was right on the water and had beautiful views. It's very quiet and peaceful here. Since the sites are so close to the water you could fish from your campsite or put your boat in the water there. Our son loved the beach area across the lake and had it all to himself. There's lots to do if you want to be busy or just relax. We definitely want to come back.

We have camped here twice and it is my favorite. It is clean and sites are spacious. We stayed in #7 previously and it is closer to the neighbors than #24. Nvm They are all more spacious than FDR. The views here are great. This is a great spot for birdwatching. I have seen osprey, blue heron, red headed woodpeckers, red winged black birds, just to name a few. Be aware of the squirrels. If you leave food out they will take it as an invitation to supper. There are alligators here but we have not seen them....yet. Great beach area that is just a short ride away but in the park. You have access to the pool at the lodge. The golf course is well maintained and fun to play. And of course there are tons of spots to fish. Bikes and dogs are welcome. There are two bathhouses on the lake front side, one on the forest side. The lakefront ones are clean and just what you need them to be. There is a coin washer and dryer at both. One has a drink vending machine.
Several camp host that are so nice and helpful. No negatives to report here. Well maybe the gnats... but nothing we can do about those.
There is a Dollar General across the highway from the park. Stifling a general store also, this is the place to get meat for the grill and grab some beef jerky. You can eat in the park at Cordelia’s or drive into Cordele. It is about 10 minute drive.
