General Coffee State Park

Both campground 1 and campground 2 have beautiful sites, all are pull thru except for #’s 1 and 2, a few are FHU.
We enjoyed the quiet relaxing campground surrounded by woods with hiking trails.
A playground for the kids is located toward the back in between the 2 campgrounds.
Both bath houses are always clean and well stocked. Campground 1 bath house is new as of April, 2023.
Washer and dryer are available at both campgrounds. Cost is reasonable using quarters, no change machine.

A lake with paddle boat and kayak rentals is near the front of the park; no swimming allowed.
Many activities are planned throughout the year at the historic homestead and farm site.

We’ve stayed here a few times and most recently with our 9& 11year old grandkids. The sites are very nicely shaded and a great size. The bathhouse is new and it was super clean, very nice! The park itself is wonderful. We rented paddle boats and a canoe ( so fun) and the kids really enjoyed the farm. The farm is a heritage farm and the ranger there during our stay was not only extremely knowledgeable about the area’s history, he was able to relate his knowledge to our grandkids in a very interesting way. Summer is not a popular time to camp in Southern Georgia but we really enjoyed our visit.

We've visited this park previously, and it is still a great campground and park. Did more walking/hiking this time. Not a busy place in early January. Georgia State parks has a 20% discount for seniors, but you don't get it until you check in, and they will credit your payment card. We bought two bundles of firewood and still got a few bucks refunded. A new bathhouse is being built in loop 1, which also is gravel road while loop 2 is paved. We've always stayed in loop 2 which also seems to have more level sites. We are a 36' class a with dolly/toad. We will be back. A star off for noise as there are lots of trains passing by. If you are in a tent, this would be very noticeable at night.

We really enjoyed this small state park. There are two small campgrounds, main difference is campground #1 has gravel roads, #2 has asphalt roads. Sites are gravel in both loops, almost all are pull throughs with water and electric. How level the sites are does vary a bit but most looked workable. Sites are good sized, ours (49) was much longer than our 40 foot fifth wheel an truck. Lots of mature trees in the campground but not a lot of smaller vegetation between sites. Speaking of trees big rig drivers will need to slowly pick their way through the campgrounds, there are some low branches that could scratch the side of a taller rig. Electric was good 50 amp service, water pressure was OK but not great. Verizon was plenty fast enough to stream, AT&T was OK but did buffer occasionally. There are a few nice trails in the park for walking mountain biking. There are equestrian trails too but we didnt check those out. There is a small nature center and a recreated historic farm with a few animals, we spent about an hour there, the docent was very knowledgeable. The dump station is conveniently located but again is a little tight with trees and slopes downhill. Also the actual dump is surrounded by railroad ties so dumping a blue boy or a rig with a low waste outlet is a bit of a challenge. There is a spigot provided which is nice. Overall serviceable just not great.

We camped here late December, 2021. Reserved a few days ahead of time and our passing thru friends were able to get the site next to us for a night. The price I listed is the average over our stay with any taxes / reservation fee / discount. We chose this campground for the park - the heritage farm sounded interesting and the trails sounded great! I loved that the one trail was accessible from the campground. The other trails are ones we drove to - nice boardwalk trail & trail around the lake by the farm. We saw a couple of gopher tortoise burrows and I saw an Eastern Indigo snake crawling up a tree in to a hole! Was very cool Am including a video on our stay, which the snake made the cut! Can't remember out cell service quality...

If you love being cramped in a noisy campground, then stick to loops 1 and 2 (loop 2 is newer and nicer, loop 1 looks old and worn). But if you want quiet then head to the equestrian sites. No showers there, but you can use the campground ones, just a short drive. We stayed here with only a couple neighbors during the weekend, and had the place all to ourselves during the week. Lots of nice trails for hiking and biking. Sites are not too level. Noise from the nearby road and the train horn at night reminds you you’re not too far from civilization.
