…. It’s a place to camp (FREE ) on your way north. It’s different ( no trees grow this far north) and it’s relatively level. And on July 4 weekend it was busy. Single vault toilet, tables & fire pits if’s you have your own firewood and are willing to stay outside with all the horse flies & mosquitoes… In my mind it’s basically a place to stop for the night, eat, sleep & relax before the next days drive but it’s not a”Destination “….. And if’s it’s fire season in AK visibility will be seriously affected….

Galbraith Lake Campground was a gem on the famous "Haul Road" on our journey up the Dalton Highway from Fairbanks to Deadhorse. There are only a handful of "campgrounds" on the Dalton and this one by far won our vote of approval. It takes a solid 8 hours (in a car/truck) to reach Galbraith Lake from Fairbanks. We did not want to do a dis-service to our RV by taking it on the Dalton highway so we tent camped for this weekend adventure. If you want to continue on to Deadhorse from the campground it is another 4 hours of road North of there. We camped here June 23rd & 24th, 2017 and it was quite comfortable with temps around 50 degrees at night and in the 60's during the day. The sun never sets here during the summer and the sun truly does circle above you all night long. The views south are of the Brooks range and are spectacular and the green hills of the North Slope go on for miles when you look North from here. No water or dump, only a pit toilet. Be prepared for any type weather or wildlife. I put a 1 star for access because the Dalton Highway is no joke and you must do your homework and prep before you decide to drive it! 500 miles of dirt one way, long haul truckers barreling down on you, slick conditions if wet due to chemicals put on the road to minimize dust, and just the ruggedness of the North Slope... BUT it was totally worth the drive!
