We Will be Back... perfect little oasis campground. Mule ear deer are everywhere. Never caught site of yellow bellied marmots. The orchards were out of season as well and we intend to schedule our next visit in season. The pies at Gifford House are as awesome as advertised. If making a Mighty 5 loop, stay here for Capitol Reef.

We stayed her for 2 nights while we toured Capitol Reef. We had a very nice campsite with good spacing and partial shade trees. Views from the campsite were beautiful of the red rocks and mountains. Very well located to everything at CR.

It's really like an oasis there. We never camp at orchard before. Friendly people and host. Pies are delicious. I already lost counting how many we ate. Site # 38 was great. We were there in early April and some of the fruit trees were in full bloom. We were about a week late for the apple trees. The sites are well spaced but like most NPs, a bit on the small side although a couple would take a bigger rig. Many of the sites are well shaded so solar charging could be tough if you need a lot of power. Generators are allowed but the hours are limited to 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the early evening.
The park was spotless and in very good condition. The location is fantastic, right in the middle of the park and very close to great hiking. We spent close to a week and really got to explore the park. Most of the action is right along the highway and all the trails off the scenic drive are packed. If you have the time, I highly recommend going into the southern part of the park. We hiked a couple of slot canyons and had then entirely to ourselves. The views in that part of the park may actually be better than the main area.
And the best part is right on the edge of the campground, The Gifford House. Pies. They sell pies there and there is usually a line to get them. They often sell out by mid day. We tried them all and liked cherry the best. We had pie for desert everyday and took 3 to go when we left. All proceeds go right back into the park.
There is no cell service or WiFi. You have to go into Torrey if you really need service.

After visiting Zion and Bryce, we loved this (mostly) quiet little spot. We were in the area just one night so opted for $20 with no hookups vs a boondocking spot further out. First come first served Nov-Feb and it was pretty empty when we arrived. Greeted by three horses when we set up along the fence, and close enough to hear the river. Facilities were clean and well maintained. Wonderful to have no cell service when we're prepared for it. Only part of the campground is open in winter so it filled in later in the day - including someone who had to run their genny. Pie store was closed but the 100+ year old sentinels still stand tall. Natural beauty and history all in one.

Setting, easy of access, paved sites, flush toilets, proximity of easily managed hikes, not to mention the excellent baked items available on site (local baked and available daily at 8AM) make this our favorite.
