My only criticism is that the site we were in wasn't very level (hence 4 stars on Quality), about 5" off in one corner of our 144' wheel base van. But if you can level things up, you should be OK.
Note that the sites farthest away from the beach are higher in elevation and sometimes have a real nice view towards the ocean.

April is a great time to camp. There are few bugs. Campground is not full. A quiet and peaceful place. A plus is the whippoorwill roosting in the live oaks with their nightly serenade. Yes it is a long drive to get there, but that is the OBX.

The showers are cold and not fully enclosed. There is a 1/3 mile long boardwalk and sandy path to the beach, which is beautiful. Only complaint were the sand spurs that stuck to our shoes, clothes, bike tires, etc. and were painful to remove.
We took our trailer on the free ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke Island for our next stop. Be sure to monitor weather forecasts before and during your stay here, as Atlantic storms can be serious.

All the sites are very different. Some have shade, some have none, some have their picnic table way back in the trees, some (like ours) had the grill stuck in the bushes.
Our site 61 was great. The seating was next to the RV instead of behind it. Also, we were high enough up we could see the water and hear it at night.
Beach access is just a short drive away.
Good food at the tavern on 12 near by.
15 mins to Cape Hatteras.
Showers are only cold! Plan on just using them to rinse off sand.
If planning on driving out on the beach, be sure to check permit requirements for when you will be there.

I literally fell asleep to a “frog & circadian orchestra.” I enjoyed seeing the bunnies on my morning walk. I was wowed by the sunrises!
There are many very private sites, with shade and most seem to have easy trails to the bathrooms / shower house. The bathrooms & showers were clean.
Two well maintained boardwalks from the campground lead right to the beach. The beach was pristine! It was the nicest “wild” beach I’ve gone to.
Everything about this place was good, even the park ranger was really helpful and friendly.
Be warned though … none of the sites have electricity or water. There is water at the bath house, if you don’t bring your own. The showers are cold water … which to me felt great after a sandy, humid, 85 degree day. Many of the sites have small “driveways” so if you aren’t tent camping check the dimensions of the driveway. I also noticed that the “tent” areas at sites really vary in size so if you have a larger tent check the size of the “tent pad.”

Our particular site does not have an ocean view but many on loop P do towards the top. Price we paid reflects the Senior Pass 50% Discount.

What does this campground have? Cooking grills at each site, picnic tables at each site, garbage dumpsters, free permits for beach campfires. The campground only has cold water outdoor showers with lockable doors. If you need a water fill and dump station you’ll actually need to drive over to Cape Point Campground and use it there. It’s the sister campground to the Frisco Campground. As far as I could tell this campground doesn’t have water, power or sewer hookups. At the time this review is posted there’s warning signs everywhere telling you the water in the campground isn’t potable due to high chlorine levels. So plan your water carefully.
Much like in Ocracoke, prepare for your trip. If it’s cold, you probably don’t want to use the ice cold water outdoor showers. In the summer the water might feel nice. But then it’ll be hot and you’ll need to prepare for some shade. This campground had some mosquitos and it was only about 75 at the warmest. Be careful of the sandspurs EVERYWHERE. Even at the path to the beach because people brought them over on their footwear.
I give this campground 5 stars because it fulfills every need. But to be honest we really didn’t spend much time at the campground. In this location, we stayed away most of the time doing stuff elsewhere.
Internet. At campsite P038, we had bad cell signal. As we discovered, your location in the campground dictates your cell reception because the campground is hilly. The higher in altitude your site is, the clearer line-of-site signal you’ll have. The speeds were pretty fantastic with good line-of-sight. But at campsite P038 with Verizon on an iPhone 12 we had 1.6 Mbps down, 0.4 Mbps up and 61 ping. With a cell booster I had a much better connection but I wouldn’t have been able to video chat.

Parked on the P loop to be closer to the beach boardwalk. He sites at the top are up the hill and have a nice view of the water.
Two of the bathrooms were open (post-Covid). They were ok. A used tampon on the floor of the shower turned us off!
They don’t have first come, first served anymore. Every site has to be reserved in advance.
The beach was pretty with lots of shells, but tons of 4x4 trucks and jeeps driving around was less than appealing to those who just want to walk on quiet beach.
One bar of Verizon service.

A short walk to the beach on the boardwalk. There is also a 4 mile, fairly packed road that goes to Cape Hatteras which would be convienent for fat tire bikes but we were too lazy. There is also a hiking path through the woods. Close to town for your seafood fix. Verizon, AT&T and TMobile all suitable for streaming, unboosted.
