We had a great weekend. Some of the spots are a little harder to get into with a trailer than others. This is a very popular spot. Nice access to the river and fishing was great

Stayed here in mid May. There are two loops, one on the right encircles a beautiful meadow. Normally I prefer the exterior sites, but the sites at this campground loop are so well spaced and the meadow was so gorgeous that we chose an interior site with our dinette view of this lovely sun drenched, wild flower filled view. The south fork of the Stanislaus River runs right next to the CG. If you camp near it expect to have an audible presence. However site 11 on the other side provided the gentle background sound of rushing water. A nice day hike out of this loop provides a gentle meandering stroll along the river with majestic granite. Nearby is Strawberry Grade trail, an old mining railroad right of way. No signs of the railroad but made for a wonderful bike ride. Joe the camp host was awesome. Very welcoming and was able to answer a few general questions. He also does a terrific job keeping the pit toilet buildings very clean and the sweetest smelling pit toilets I have ever been in! Overall a wonderful place to hang out, fish, hike or just plain relax in the beauty of the sierras. Cell service is very weak. Weather was great with mid 40's overnight and high 70's during the day. The sites by 11 are all full sun. Great for solar, didn't need to break out the generator, and it being late spring no problem with heat. I suspect that the shaded sites in the summer months would be preferable.

National forest campground, very well maintained. Super clean pit toilets. All sites are flat and paved, though variable length. Several double sites available. We chose site 11 because it has nearly full sun; most sites are at least partly shaded. Campground is no reservations, first come. We arrived on a Wednesday so plenty of choices. Campground was about 70% full on Friday night (mid-May), about 80% full on Saturday. I understand it fills completely on summer weekends.
CASH ONLY for payment.
Dry camping; water available.
Campground host Joe is very friendly and helpful.
Campground is on a fork of the Stanislaus River, regularly stocked with trout while the water is cold enough. Fairly easy sport fishing, you can eat what you catch.
Hiking trails right from camp, or get in your car and explore the stunning highway 108 corridor. Pinecrest Lake, Kennedy Meadows, Sonora Pass--so much wilderness, on the backdoor of Yosemite.
Bonus: We had 2-3 bars of 5G ATT mobile coverage in the campground.
Quiet during the week, the scene got a little more "party" on the weekend but not bad.

We stayed here opening weekend April 2016 for one Sunday night. The camp host told us that Friday night the campground was full, but by Sunday morning around noon almost everyone had left. Check-in was easy, and camp host was very friendly. Sites are level and clean. The campground is by the South Fork Stanislaus River. Just a short walk up the road by the bridge is the start of a wonderful hike along the river, Sugar Pine Railroad trail. Great hike in spring with may plants in bloom, Dog Wood trees.
