Easy access from Southern Canyonlands entrance up Blue Mountain paved roads with signs to Foy Lake. Coming in from Monticello we passed many other boondocking sites. Pulled into this site late afternoon on a Wednesday to find two other campers with room for several more. Disappointed that it was not actually on Foy Lake but rather a short walk away to a peaceful pond with ducks & deer.

Campground was moderately protected by scrub oaks & very clean. Vault toilet in very good condition. After dusk a local man approached us saying “you guys sure aren’t hunting.” He nailed us as dirty hippies right off the bat 🤣. He explained that hunting season started Saturday & the camp would start filling the next day with hunters (he was right). Friendly enough guy although he did start telling us of all the “strange happenings” he’d encountered in the Blue Mountains over the years including the resident bear family (no signs warning of bears in the area).

An hour or so later we hear a large creature approaching our campfire in the pitch black dark so we scramble to the protection of our van only to double over in laughter as a large male mule deer wandered into our campground. The problem was, he was actually pretty aggressive & persistent. It took considerable effort for two grown adults to chase him off (he kept charging & I never knew deer could “snarl”!) & he was a nuisance this morning as we packed up. What a crazy story!

Decent place to stay, potential to get very busy, watch out for locals & deer!
