Easy access off 395. Interesting geological area. Open areas for big RVs. Can’t beat the price.

This was a really interesting location to stay in, and we greatly enjoyed our visit. The landscape is quite interesting, as the sands are red and black, and the shrubs are bright yellow. Altogether, it's very pretty. About a mile from the free BLM lands is Fossil Falls itself, which is the canyon/volcanic rocks created by prehistoric volcanic activity and flooding. I would definitely recommend checking it out during your stay.
Our favorite thing about this spot was the remoteness. There were virtually no other campers, and the location was very private. However, due to the remoteness, all convenience locations are very far away. The closest grocery store was about an hour away, and all gas stations that were closeby were 60% more expensive than the ones in more populated locations.
Tip: Coso Junction gas station and general store is just about the only amenity you will find nearby (8 miles away). The next closest thing is Ridgecrest, which is about 45 minutes away. At Coso Junction, there is gas, a generic convenience store and a water fill-up station, which is free. They also have a trash dumping station and propane fill-ups - all very convenient for boondocking.
I definitely recommend staying here for at least a couple days. Be sure to check the weather beforehand. Any winds over 12-15 mph feel much worse because of the remote location, as there is nothing to block or stop the winds. We had to keep our slides closed in for two nights and ended up leaving earlier than planned due to the strong winds.
Life Among Pines would stay here again

There is a lot of space here and we had no problem finding a place well away from anyone else. We took a couple hikes while we were here. Fossil falls is amazing! I highly recommend going over there. Be sure you explore it from the east as well (come in from the opposite side of the main trail). There is a lot more to see.
As mentioned in another review; clean drinking water and dumpsters are available at the Coso Junction rest area, but you can't put a hose on the water spigot. We went across the street to the Coso Junction gas station and they have a hose (near the air compressor) where we were able to fill the fresh water tank on our RV.

It can get quite windy but nothing too bad. The views of the eastern Sierras is beautiful and there are several hikes, for example to the Fossil Falls or the Little Lake overlook.
A rest area stop with water and dumpsters is about 7 Miles away. There's also a small convenient store. Walmart, Albertsons, Laundry are available in Ridgecrest, about 30-45 minutes away. Death Valley NP is about 90 minutes away, Lone Pine and Alabama Hills 45 min.
This is one of my favorite boondocking spots so far.
remember to explore would stay here again
