“Beautiful campground!”

We stayed here just for one night on our way home to Iowa from Itasca on July 2, 2021. We felt this was a wonderful find! It is a small CG, but the sites are huge!! Most are separated by shrubs, grasses and trees. There is a equestrian campground north of this one that has the shower house. We didn't use it. You would have to drive to get there, but not that far.
The tree cover is magnificent as are the hiking paths under the tree cover. Probably not for the really good hikers but great for us older folks or just for the folks that want a quiet stroll in the woods.
There is not a playground for kids, but this would not really be a negative in this park. Families could bring their own lawn games as well as explore the creek that runs beside the CG and the nice hiking for all ages. As I said the sites are huge so the kids can have their games, bikes, etc.
Sites are level. Water spigots for filling your tank are easily accessible as well. There is a very nice pit latrine/outhouse as well. Very clean and kept up.
The Fort Ridgely historical site is a short drive from the CG. It would be interesting for history buffs.
We are headed back there in early June 2022 for a longer visit!!! I was able to get the last site available for the long weekend we are there! We are anxious to see it on a busy weekend!

“Beautiful trails, quiet campground with sites along the creek”

This is a nice state park campground, 31 sites, 15 of which are electric. Sites 23e, 25e, 29e, and 31e all have electric and are right along the creek (which you can hear when you wake up, it's super pleasant). I'd avoid 29e though, as it's right next to the bridge that leads to the trails, so there's lots of foot traffic. 18 is the only pull-through site, but there's no electric service there.

I stayed at 31e, which is especially great if you're setting up a tent: it's got a section off to the side, surrounded by trees on two sides and the creek on another.

In July 2016, there was no Verizon, T-Mobile, or Sprint coverage, but there was AT&T coverage. If you drive to the historic site in the state park (a few minutes by car) there's good service Verizon and T-Mobile.
