Fort Pickens Campground

Originally reserved a site in Loop A, but after reading the description of the driveway going through A with low branches of 12 ft, I canceled and reserved in Loop C instead. Booked C016 and even though the site description indicated height restriction of 12 ft, and narrow on one side, I decided to take the chance. Glad I did. Our fifth wheel is 27' 8" long and 12'6" high. Pulling it with a F250. We just barely fit length and height. with inches to spare.

Note: I did try calling the campground and left a message. No one ever called me back.

Beautiful campground. Some trees. Many shorter sites. I felt quite lucky to get our site!

Water and electric hookup. Bring an extension for your electric, it's pretty far back there. Read the site descriptions!

We walked the trail to Fort Pickens. About 1 mile. Very much worth the visit. There's a boardwalk to the beach across from the campground entrance. The beach is beautiful and mostly deserted in April.

Internet pokey. 5G 2 bars. TV air antenna channels were ok. The usual ME-TV and local news kind of stuff.

Grab groceries, gas, etc before trekking out here. The speed limit is 25 or 35 and it's a long, slow drive to the closest town.

They will evacuate the campground if there's a chance of flooding. Have a Plan B. They had evacuated it 2 days before our arrival.

First long trip with the Pup to Pensacola Beach, Florida. Beautiful park and Beach. Woke up on the first day to a beautiful sun rise on the beach, did a little fishing, checked out the Fort, went into town for a little shopping and lunch…..

Well after a great first day we came back to our camper just before dinner to find a evacuation notice of the FT Pickens Park. Due to high winds and seas expected Saturday afternoon the park has a mandatory evacuation by 11 am. Well we broke camp camp last night and moved to a site two hours back towards home.

For anyone interested in camping at Fort Pickens in Pensacola Beach FL you should know the park will evacuate you if weather is bad which causes the entrance roads to flood.

We had heard of this happening when tropical storm and such rolls in but it happens anytime the seas are high enough to breech the the park roads. What a disappointment.

We found this park to be a wonderful place to spend Christmas- not too crowded and everyone here was super friendly. The sites are a bit close to each other but one site to the east of us was vacant til the last night. The pad was level. The only negative was the showers. Some had no hooks or seats, paint chipped, shower curtains mildewy. Most concerning was the slippery floors. My husband slipped and fell, hitting his head. Unacceptable.

The location is so far removed from any conveniences it discourages party animals looking for bars and beaches. Very serene and beautiful. However there are 3 military bases nearby so there are loud jets and planes at times during the day, but not as bad as the constant helicopters at Destin. Lots of older folks and people with well trained cats and dogs! Our site was perfectly level.

We stayed here for 3 nights in mid-May, 2023. We wanted to see a friend who lives in Pensacola, so this campground made sense. Just don't get site E11... the site on our trailer door side (site E13) was literally 12' away from us. Their power pole was insanely close to us - our narrow mat touched the pole. Just poor design. The sites towards the east seemed to be better. Showers were decent - not super clean. On the map it showed laundry by the camp store. No laundry to be found and the "camp store" was just a vacant building. So that's all of the bad! Long slow drive in - love that the dunes are all protected! The good - gorgeous beach - nice boardwalk from campground to beach. The fort, gift shop and beaches by the fort were all fantastic! So go for the fort and the beaches! No toll on bridge going North - yay!

This was our second time to camp here and it was as great as the first! The camp host were super nice.
The trails and proximity to the beach were awesome. The showers that are centrally located in the campground could use an upgrade but the ones that are in the same building as the laundry were great. The only problem we encountered here were the dryers. There was a note on one that stated that it worked but wouldn't blow heat and the other one didn't dry our towels very well but Gulf Breeze/Pensacola is just a short drive if you really needed to do laundry. Check-out is at 11:00am but we needed to stay until 5pm for my husband to work and the camp host said we could park at the Battery Worth Parking Lot which is right next to the campground.

The good: beaches and trails can’t be beat. A loop is nice and quiet, for more noise and activity, do a different loop. TV and satellite reception are tops. A37 is very private and spacious.
The not so good: A37 was the most unlevel campsite I’ve ever had when camping here. If you get this one, bring leveling blocks, you’ll need about 4in for back wheels. It is also full sun—fine in spring. Showers in A loop are not usable as spigot is flush against wall. The dump station does not have cover for sewer. You’ll either have to use your outdoor shower or drive to C loop bathrooms.
