I would select another campsite if I return. 25-30 minutes to Savannah. The town of Richmond Hill is about 5 miles away and has restaurants and shopping, all you would need. The only con I have is that the campsite is dirt so be prepared to vacuum quite a bit. We were there 11 days. We camped at Fort McAllister State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed here for 10 days - getting into the park was wonderful with large canopy tree and Spanish moss overhangs. There's a 1mile causeway you'll traverse to get to the camp sites. Mostly shaded sites with the sun peaking out here and there. The roads around the park are narrow. We started FHU site 4 for a night and then moved to W/E site 34 for the remainder - near the dumpsters and dump station. Site has the shape of a wide horseshoe and was level with 2-30A plugs and a single 20A- water only site. Wanted to experiment with a 2-30A male to 50A female power plug but was told that 30A was the max current that could be supplied to any 30A plug. For taller rigs like ours (12'6") you may consider backing into the site as there are some low hanging branches that will catch the roof. There are a couple bath houses, but they are a bit of walk from this site - just keep that in mind. Hiking/biking trails start back at the visitor center - mostly flat and muddy. AT&T service allowed us to stream shows and hold video calls; TMobile was hit or miss. The laundry room had 1 washer and 1 dryer so be aware.
We had a nice interactions with all the CG hosts. Struck up many conversations with Ronnie and Cheryl as well as with Fred. Good times. There's lots of squirrels, deer, and raccoons roaming around the CG. Think I even saw an armadillo.
We did have to euthanize our older cat during our stay here. The CG hosts and staff were accommodating allowing us to have a hospice vet come to our campsite. Thankful to provide her a peaceful place to leave the material world.

Although it is a beautiful campground, cell service was so bad, I was struggling to even open the weather ap. Only 1 bar of Verizon and no clear view of sky for Starlink to work (there are a few sites that might have worked, but the park was sold out, so not able to change sites - look carefully if WiFi is important). They do have WiFi at the office and I was able to use it from the front porch bench (no picnic table on the porch). The Fort is worth the extra price to walk through it. Laundry room is great. Showers are nice, each a personal unit with toilet, sink and handicap shower, but water flow is restricted, leaving just a stream to wash off soap and shampoo. The hiking paths are good and the deer, raccoons and armadillos - as well as hundreds of squirrels are fun to watch. The constant pinging of berries falling on my roof, not so great. Its a good area to sightsee in Savannah, but probably would not stay again. OTA TV is totally available, but I'm not a TV person and would much rather be able to search the web for sightseeing and hiking trails and to check opening hours, tours and prices. Recommendations by the office for lunch were great - but everything recommended didn't open until 4pm on a Monday. Publix is close by, so that was helpful. I'm full time, so having some cell service or WiFi is important - timing was off for me. Perhaps another time when I have no need for either, this would be magical.

Great campground! My family enjoyed the deer that come right up to you in the morning. We didn’t use the bath house so I can’t comment on cleanliness or water temperature but the nature was absolutely beautiful! Spots are dirt. Plenty of trails and nature to enjoy and explore.

I travelled here with a 35’ 5th wheel, long bed pickup and parked in the site #30, an E/W (30A), PT site for $30/night with a senior discount. The roads are asphalt and sites are packed sand. Go slow since the roads are narrow and there are trees close to the edges in several spots. Some sites were not very well defined and I just had to guess where to go based on tire tracks in the sand. Also, prior occupants had moved the fire ring which blocked egress to the site. It took some back and forth to get positioned so that I wouldn’t hit trees with my slides, wouldn’t be tail to nose with my neighbor and could get my truck out of the site after I parked. People at the office were very friendly and helpful. I had 2 bars LTE with Verizon (downloads were slow and calls were shaky), lots of OTA channels, no wifi. The bathhouse was clean although the camp hosts fought a losing battle with keeping sand out. They cleaned them several times a day. It was a nice enough stay, but I would probably try to book somewhere else if I came back to the area.

My brother had stayed here a few months back and really had to watch the branches. The Fort is worth a visit - the nature trail is worth the walk and we had fun doing a little geocaching. Quiet & peaceful. Nice to have the laundry facilities too! Eventually I will have a video to post (just need to get to editing...)!

Beautiful park, large campsites. We were in site 10 and there’s a wildlife feeding station about 100 yards behind us. We watched deer for a while, walked up to the boat ramp area, and checked out the water. There were benches and swings to enjoy the view. We came back from our walk by a seated zip line area. Kids would love it.

It’s a shame the state government in Georgia finds it acceptable to fly so many lone confederate flags in the office/“museum” of this park.
As soon as you walk in you see two large confederate flags hanging and many other ones throughout, including miniature ones for sale at the front desk.
We aren’t talking about a private citizens freedom of speech here, we are talking about a governments refusal to accept the loss and recognize the hate, violence, and enslavement the flag represents.
When I gave this feedback to the women working the front desk, they said nothing but “have a good day, sir”
It’s clear this park is only for white, racist southerners. All others are made to feel excluded.
The sad part is, the park itself is beautiful.
