As others have mentioned this is a great spot for doing the sandhill crane experience. There are lots of campgrounds right off I-80, but this one is so much quieter (except for the cranes)! We arrived mid afternoon and the friendly attendant was helpful in getting a great spot reserved for our camper van. We unloaded our bikes and rode the really nice trail out across the Platte River bridges as far as the Archway before turning around. We had evening reservations for a crane blind tour and then got something to eat so it was very late by the time we got back. Finding our spot in the dark might have been difficult if we hadn’t been there before. The sites are dirt/grass but didn’t seem to be terribly un-level., at least for our 19’ van.

Ok we where coming home from a mountain camping trip where we stayed in a state ran campground with zero electricity zero water and vault toilets.. that place was clean with no attendant on site... Now this place a quick but horrible stop on the way home... First off all sites are in bad shape very unlevel and no upkeep.. the vault toilets where full to the top .. we got a site a was down down the road and could smell them all the way down there .. no thanks.. then the shower house dirty and the showers where awful at a buck for 4 min .. waste.. the lakes looked liked that's where they might pump the vault toilets when no one is around to see.. filthy trash and run down.. playground reminded me of a bar parking lot with playground equipment.. cigarettes everywhere booze bottles just terrible.. the attendant on site has a camper thats piled high with junk everywhere.. didn't see a single person to rectify the situation.. we just left our loss definitely their gain but unfortunately they don't put the funds where they need to go... Ran down and gross zero stars ... Drive a little further ..

We stayed overnight on site 78. It was difficult to find after dark, mostly dirt and not level. We didn't have to unhook but it was a squeeze to fit out 30ft TT and truck. The site had more room to one side, which was nice, but our neighbor's fire ring was located directly behind our TT. There was no water at the site. Verizon was much better than AT&T. It rained the day we were there so we didn't venture out to see the Fort or any more of the campground.

All sites seem fairly private. Most are gravel or dirt and only have electricity. Water spigots are found near the camping. Paved roads interior, but a little morrow. Not problem for out 40 ft 5th wheel with long bed dually.
Loads of trails near here. Very quiet and safe. 2 lane dump station with drinking water separate from dump.
We took our Lectric bikes down a paved path to the arch. You can continue on the path to downtown Kearney. Camp Host on-site.
Pay station was an honor system. Some sites can be reserved in advance but I think the FCFS sites are better sites. You can stay up to 14 days.
Nice playgrounds and a swimming beach.

We planned to dry camp at Bassway Strip but heat drove us to find a site with electric. Host was kind and helpful. Plenty of sites to choose from. Did not use any facilities. Dump and potable water are located in a large, easy access area. Out of state pays $8 for a day pass.

Be prepared for the feedlot smell from around 8-9 pm every night. The water stations are old hand pump water wells which would be fine if any of them had a hand pump to get the water! Be careful when reserving a site. On line said the site I had was partially shaded. There was a tree by it that may provide partial shade in about 15 years. Most other sites do have a lot of shade. Plus side was we could get our pedal boat into the water without too much hassle from our site. Sites are not paved as well. The kids had to use the restroom upon arrival so I sent them to a bathroom on the map. They came back and, well evidently they are above going in a hole in the ground. So I sent them to the shower building to which they returned and said evidently they have a problem with people pooping in the showers because there was a sign posted requesting people to not do that. Needless to say, the camper bathroom and shower got a lot of use out of it as the sites are electric only.

We were headed east on I-80 and had planned to stay in a Walmart parking lot but 90+ degree temps made electric hookups a necessity. We found Ft Kearney after a quick internet search. It's between exits on the interstate so when leaving we just continued traveling east on the secondary road to the next exit and didn't have to backtrack so coming here only added a few miles to our trip. The campground is well maintained and many sites were available first-come-first-serve on a Friday night in mid-September. We selected a 50 amp, level site in a shaded area. All sites are back-in but none provide water or sewer. There is a dump station. We did not check out the bath houses. The folks at the check-in station were friendly and made us feel very welcome. This is a great overnight stop when traveling through this area. The fee is $20/night for an electric site plus an $8 fee is you don't have a Nebraska park pass (which we did not). We have an 40' motor home and most sites would accommodate us.
