Question about Fort De Soto Park Campground

Psychgirl74 asked on 5/26/2021

Hi! I made a reservation for Fort De Soto in Area 1, which is supposed to be for tent camping and trailers under 16 feet. I had planned on going tent camping, but since then I've purchased a lightweight trailer that's about 22 feet long. The campsite dimensions are listed as 19 feet by 60 feet (width x length). Curious if others feel I could take the risk to bring my new trailer into that spot, or if I should revert to tent camping for this trip?

Hate to have you go and get turned away because of your length. Area 1 can be a little tight to get into which is one reason they have the length limitations. I would call them and explain. Maybe they can put you in a different site so you can still take your TT.

A lot of the sites are big enough the problem can be low hanging trees on the road in the loop there are quite a few. I have seen pop-ups in there and once in a while a very small trailer but depending what the height as you might try to call and get clarification you will not have problems getting into that loop with over hanging trees. You can go on campsitephotos.com and find Fort De Soto Park he shows every site in there what each campsite looks like and some highlights of the parks that he goes through but again the road could have low trees. It’ll give you an idea if there are campers in that loop and how big they are if they were camping while he was in there taking photos.

We went with a 27 foot Airstream to this park. It worked because the wheels are in the center of the trailer and therefore we could back all the way in the spot with the center wheels touching the concrete divider. Otherwise, the wheels on an RV are in the back (as well as the front) and it they can not push as far back as our trailer.

I think it depends on the actual site - they are all different but they usually include space enough for a car and trailer combo. If you know the site #, go to https://www.campsitephotos.com/campground/fl/fort-de-soto-park/ and check out a pic of where you will be, it will give you a better idea of your space.

You'll be fine. The road is a bit narrow and a few low limbs but otherwise the sites are a nice size. I drove my 25' class C through on my way to use the dump for that loop and other than the low limbs it was fine.
