Check the campground map as some pull thru are doubles meaning if you are second to arrive you will be backing in. Warning, avoid site #13 if rain is forecast as it driveway gets really mushy probably from run off from the shower building. Plenty of hiking, biking, E-biking, and walking in the park. Bike path goes all the way into town. Campers were catching fish from the campground river bank. As usual, the quieter loop was the one without the playground. Also a mandatory $7 a day ( $35 annual) ND park pass required.

This park is really pretty and nicely kept. The showers were top notch. The sites were spacious and other than some avid campfire builders (the bane of our existence on the road) all was well. Except the process of going online to get a site! I spent over an hour and a half trying to select a site and pay for it, to no avail. The camp host's site had all kinds of signs up about firewood (grrr) and change and an ice machine even, but they didn't seem in the business of sorting our campsite payments. The next morning we had to deal with it at the entrance booth, as the woman in the lovely CCC park HQ couldn' t make the system work either. Good Verizon signal and OATV.

Peaceful, clean, easy sights, good hiking/biking trails, river access for paddling, and historic site access.
We spent 4th of July here - sat long the bank of the Missouri River and watched the horizon for over 2 hours as fireworks consumed the entire river bank! Amazing!

This state park and the corresponding campground (CG) were easy to find off I 94 and then through Mandan. You check in at the gate where along with your camping fees, you still have to purchase an ND state-park vehicle pass for $7 a day or $35 a year. We then proceeded to back-in site 71 with water and electric (50/30/20 AMP). The back-in was easy and the site was plenty long enough for our 39’ 5th wheel and F450. We received an electrical error from our Watch Dog surge protector and went back to the gate and reported the issue. A ranger showed up about 5 minutes later and swapped the 50 AMP breaker so all was good. We shared a water post with our neighbor and had great water pressure of 60+ so used a reducer. We got quite a few OTA channels and could have used our satellite. We also got 2 bars each on Verizon and T-Mobile. Site 71 had a nice-sized front yard. The rangers regularly patrol the CG and there’s firewood plus ice for sale near the camp host site. There are plenty of trails to explore either by walking or biking. In addition, the state park has a lot of Custer-era calvary history. Be sure to check out the park’s visitor center then visit the Slant Indian Village that’s adjacent to the visitor center. Be careful when selecting a pull-through site, as most, if not all of them, are actually set up as two sites. So, if you were to arrive after your neighbor, you will actually be backing into your site. We enjoyed our 3-day stay and would not hesitate to come back.

This was our third stop at this park. We like to stay here as a one night stop when we are traveling through the area to places further west from our home in Minnesota. As mentioned in another review, the price is the same whether you come in the summer when things are up and running or the off season when there is no water or dump station available. We enjoy the park and the hiking around the park in different seasons, even when we have been the only people in the park in early spring.

A quiet beautiful state park full of history. 50amp service and water (many sites require 50’ of hose, had to run into town to get another hose). Our site was right across from the river.

Nice shaded spot. Water & 50amp for $25 per night + entrance fee of $7 per night = $32 a night. Totally worth it!! Here on Sunday-Wednesday so quiet & little traffic. Lots of history here too. Close enough to Bismarck if interested in North Dakota’s capital. Verizon signal was adequate with booster but not robust by any means.

Pros: Pretty park. Nice bathhouse. Nice playground. Nice paved walking path by the water. Very nice visitor center. Many great learning opportunities. Very nice rangers at this park.
Cons: Our nightly rate of $37.80 included a $7 entry fee into the park and a $5.80 online booking fee. A bit pricey for electric (30 amp only) and water. No sewer. There is a dump station. The "pull through" sites are odd... you basically share it with another camper. Not a fan. We had read other reviews on this, so we knew it going in and chose a back in site for that reason. Our site was right next to the playground, which our youngest appreciated. The site was a bit short however (our 5th wheel is 34 feet) and it required that we park our truck in the empty site next to us.
For us, both Verizon and At&t were strong.

There is no water on site and dump station is close. They still want to charge $35 a night when the KOA in town is $40. Horrible. They should have a not at the door letting people now.
