The dirt road is super even and our 36’ had no problems finding a spot or driving on it. Well kept, no trash and (rock)fire pits. We stayed more towards the entrance with our rig but it went in deeper. We woke up to find beautiful landscape, cows off in the distance. We saw birds our boys said looked like killer whales (they really did… trying to find out what they were). There were signs of a carcass but it looked at least a few months old. Elk scat also present. Minor noise from the highway but it was expected as it is right off the main road, but it really wasn’t bad. Very happy with our one night stay here!

This was very pretty site, if you are coming from Albuquerque, take the 2nd entrance. It’s about mile up the road, there are no signs, but it is a next to tiny lake and much easier to get into. We found a spot farther back. When we got there, there were 3 cars I think looking for a place to party, and I think we took it, as it had a fire ring. They left, and we never saw another person. Road was little rutty, but not bad. We did not hear any road noise.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this campground but if you’re looking for a free boondocking experience while traveling US550, this isn’t a bad stop. I will say that I made the mistake of driving up the main road too far and had a difficult time turning around, but managed to get it and back down to the main camping area that’s located just as you pull in. I’d say our 26’ travel trailer was pretty tight getting maneuvered around into a spot so if you have a larger trailer than us you might want to stop at the entrance and spot the area first on foot. The roads are rutted and washed out pretty bad going through the camp area. We found a fairly flat spot right next to the forest road 88 and decided it was good enough. You do get road noise here especially from the 18 wheelers but it’s not that bad. Other than some truck noise, it was quiet and pretty out there. We did see two other campers out there and a few trucks drove past us on the forest road. Cuba is 4-5 miles south of the camp and offers plenty of restaurants and a couple service stations.

Great area to explore. Not too hard to get to, it's right off the highway but can get very muddy. You will get the occasionally four wheeler and we heard some people shooting guns off in the distance. Beautiful area! Definitely a large kitty near by, fresh kills close to camp

Gate is open now, recent rains made the roads very muddy. Didn’t drive far down the forest road and could hear the highway. Easy for a one night, no fee pull off. (Would have gone further down the road for a spot if it wasn’t so muddy and late)

The road has been graded recently, but there is a lot of sand so it can get rutty fast. There are tons of pine trees and giant rock formations. Lots of spaces to pull off and stay, many of them not level, but still manageable with some blocks or ingenuity. No facilities, okay cell service (Verizon LTE), few neighbors. 10/10 would stay here again.

We have a 37' Fifth Wheel so we did not attempted to go back into the trees nor unhitch. Since we arrived after dark it was hard to figure out how to be the most level. It's fairly sloped here. In the morning I was able to see a better way for us to back in where we may have been more level. So not perfect but perfect for the stopover. It is right next to the highway but I didn't really have a ton of noise bother me. I do sleep with ear plugs though!

You could hear some traffic from the highway (big trucks) but it wasn’t too bad and didn’t keep us up at night. No facilities or water. Pack in and out! There was some trash around just from people being inconsiderate but it wasn’t too bad. Almost no bugs either! I would definitely stay here again.

Steep incline to what looked like a rutted sandy road. No place to pull off to check it out, so we backed out and went on down the road.
