The site itself is awesome, lots of room just be very careful of the road. It's fine but the shadows hide pot holes that are easily straddled. We even left our rig overnight to hike to the bottom of the canyon and it was fine when we returned.
ALSO!! the Mather Campground in the park will allow you to dump and fill with potable water FOR FREE!! We were headed through the park to Monument Valley and were thrilled they let people traveling through dump and fill. The campground dump station was easy for us to maneuver as well.
Have fun!!

I arrived the last week or so of April for my Grand Canyon visit. A lot of the fire roads were still closed because of the wet winter, so I checked with the ranger station for recommendation.
As others have said, it is very close to the S Rim of the GC. Most folks were camping in the area closest to the main road. I went in about 3 miles to where they had been doing maintenence with selective cutting. The area that I found was incredible. The area was dry with open areas so that I could park to take full advantage of my solar. Huge fire pit. Never saw another rig go by; only some local traffic as this connects with other roads the further in you go. The first morning about twelve mule deer meandered by while I was having my coffee. My dogs were still snoring and didn't even notice. An incredible and beautiful place to stay!

I stayed a week. I could only get in so fat due to a tree across the roadway. I was there in the spring. I helped 4 vehicles out of the mud, don’t recommend going off the main road. I have a 35’ tow hauler, and was able to find a spot, but their were bumps, grooves, and mud holes.
Getting back away from 64, and it gets quiet.
I will stay there again! Not many people are even aware of it. Everyone wants to stay in the park and to have hook-ups. I was there Easter weekend, and it was never over full.
Lots of trees to hang a hammock, and clear space to get sun for solar.
Safe travel!

By sundown everyone settled into a spot and it was a quiet night. Lots of ruts off the main road made things a little difficult getting into position. All in all a good boondock spot. There was a tree down across the road about a mile in.

Pretty much any rig size can find a place on this road and the campsites are nice and spread out with easy access and lots of places to turn around. You can get your water and dump your tanks at the national park or at the campground right at the north side of Tusuayan.

We got in on a Saturday afternoon and only saw a few other campers within a quarter to a half mile away. Very secluded and quiet spot with occasional faint road noise from the highway about a half mile away. Only traffic was a few vehicles going by on the road near us and the occasional cow herd in the near distance. Will be coming here again as it's only two hours from home!

Relatively quiet with some distant noise from the well used highway and periodic squadrons of flight-seeing departures from the nearby airport overflying the area. Neither really detract from the location's benefits. Be aware, cattle roam the forests and grasslands and their associated flies come with them. Verizon cellular is patchy at best and won't load detailed web pages. Phone and texts work fine.

Short drive off Hwy 64, 10 miles south of the Grand Canyon. When we arrived, we had multiple sites to choose from. All of the sites are large. The forest was much welcomed after being in the blazing heat of the previous nights. Lots of share! Watch out for the glass on site. Otherwise, a nice place to relax.
