“Absolutely loved it!”

The road in is well graded with several pull off spots in case you meet oncoming traffic. There are several spots off the road. Once you near the end of the road, it gets a little rutted out and quite muddy if it's been raining, but if you can make it, there's some really nice spots back there. Although there’s many old logging roads ... more

Quiet and secluded. Many cow pies and the cows appeared our first night. Ranger said they remove them in September. We were 1.5 miles up and after that the road had deep ruts. The road curved at about 2 miles where there was a fence and private property. The further up the road you go the better cell signal you get. Many spots for tent... more

FR5 is 18 miles, and a 2,000 ft climb up Taos Canyon, along US-64 from Taos. It's a winding climb, with an average speed of about 35 mph towing a trailer. You can't miss the entrance - it's at the only sharp switchback on the road. I counted 7 mostly large campsites beside the dirt road, before coming to the large meadow at 1.5 mil... more

“Cool days, chilly night even in July!”

Campsite was about 1.5 miles up the road on the right hand side. No fire ring, just a grass field with virtually no drop off. The road was fine to our campsite, but would have been impossible to get a trailer any farther due to a very rough road. We camped with a 27’ Airstream and had no trouble getting in. Even during a weekend ... more

This was our first boondocking experience. Beautiful scenery, we stayed in the 4th site. We stayed May 11th, 2018. We stayed on the weekend so most of the sites were full but still very peaceful. We had one bar of ATT LTE, no Verizon signal. There was a burn ban in effect however propane fire pits were allowed. Angel Fire is the ... more

This is a perfect escape from the summer heat! It's about 9,000 feet up, and everything is cool, green, and peaceful up here. You can stake out a boondocking spot along the road, and feel like you have the whole forest to yourself. There are a number of places with fire rings scattered along the road. I stopped at the third one tha... more
