“Rough road. Not great for a large camper.”

Reviewed May 12, 2018

You have to take a right and go up a rough narrow road once you get past the day use area. According to the motor vehicle use map that is available at the ranger station, in the bulletin board at the day use area, or online, you can disperse camp on 462 DC1 which is about a 10th of a mile up the road past the day use area and then a ... more

We drove to the end of the road where the gate is, turned right and headed up a very rough dirt road and found a beautiful pull through site on the left with a stellar sunset view. After a few nights a ranger came by to inform us that we weren’t allowed to camp there in our pop-up. Apparently only certain areas were allowed but we sa... more

Continue up the road past the day use only site. You will see a gate. The access road is to the right of the gate. We have a lifted Silverado with truck camper and had zero problems, but cars, vans, tow behinds or large RVs would have a difficult time. Go slow and maybe have someone guide you up to avoid rocks and large dips. ... more

“Maybe Tents Only? Or doesn't exist?”

Reviewed Mar 23, 2018

We arrived around 5pm at this location and drove all the way to the "Authorized Vehicles Only" gate just past the day use area. There was nowhere to pull off or setup with a camper. We did see some evidence of recent bulldozing near the GPS coordinates for this spot, so maybe the Forest Service changed the access such that campers can'... more

“Nice and peaceful time in the Cibola National forest”

Reviewed Mar 18, 2018

Overall Rating

Stayed there in my van RV. You can camp anywhere alongside the trail. The view is amazing and it's very quiet. Lots of trails to hike in. I recommend an AWD or a 4x4 to go in the upper part of the trail. No water on site, so bring your own. You can do a fire but be sure there are no ban at that time.

“Amazing primitive site in the national forest extremely tranquil with AMAZING views!!!”

Reviewed Jan 28, 2018

Absolutely breathtaking mountain views surround this beautiful forest. We spent 12 nights before moving on to explore and capture images elsewhere. The road in was not the best however if you take your time and are careful you can make it. We went in and out several times during our stay in our minivan. Even with snow on the road!
