Heard about traffic on main access roads so decided on first right turn and was successful. Any further and my 30ft rv class C would encounter a rougher road. A nice fielded area with groups of trees nearby. No noise whatsoever. Surprisingly good Verizon service.
In the morning got up to take a picture and discovered I had taken a more sloped but workable of 2 sites. The one across the road was completely flat and could handle a large rig. It just was covered with ground cover, but has fire ring on it showing designated site I believe. I'd certainly use it without concern.

The site where we stayed was very nice ponderosa pine forest land about 100 yds. from the main dirt road. Previous reviews have stated that this was a very quiet area, so I assume that the logging was an intermittent activity. It didn't work out for us.

The road is marked off of 89A. The gravel road is well maintained and no issue at all for my 42’ motorhome with toad. Plenty of spaces for a big rig to park. The gravel road is well maintained and no issue at all for my 42’ motorhome with toad.
Plenty of spaces for a big rig to park.
The cell service gets worse the farther back you go. I started in a wide open spot about a mile and a half back but had connection issues with one, sometimes 2 bars. Moved about a half mile towards 89 and got 3 bars. (Verizon)
The biggest disappointment for me was the complete lack of wildlife, of any kind. I’m sure it is due to the fires in the area. But not a squirrel, not even a bird. You can see the obvious evidence with lots of charred stumps, and the ground covered with black soot/silt. But it has been long enough ago that there are plenty of full grown trees and lots of shade.

We were going to stay closer to the North Rim. The signs at the turn-off from Hwy 89A to Hwy 67 say that many roads are closed due to a fire last year. The ranger told us after we had set up that most of the roads off Hwy 67 are open. There were numerous spots along road 248 that were just far enough from the road. We saw one log truck using the road to haul out a load of logs. There is a little noise from Hwy 89A unless you drive back in. There is very little traffic on 89A after dark.

We pushed on for about 3/4 of a mile on FR248 and found a large spot on a feeder road with nobody around. We still had three bars and 4G of Verizon.
It is fairly heavily wooded so stationary solar panels on a rig might be a problem. I carry a Renogy suitcase panel so I could chase the sun around.

Felt very secluded, hard for solar but so many nice trees. Had to use generator morning and evening. An hour to grand canyon North rim. No close grocery stores. Jacobs lake had has and a little general store but very overpriced, gas is 30¢ gallon cheaper in the GC park. Next closest town is about 45 minutes away and it's not very big so come prepared. Absolutely no ATT service but fantastic Verizon

9/16/20 we usually camp here but stayed on FR225 this time because the last review here stated FR248 was closed Due to previous fire. We took a drive to FR248 and saw people camping here so it appears to now be open!
