Overview of Forest Road 237 Designated Dispersed Camping Area 2

As of 2022, Coconino National Forest has changed dispersed camping rules in the Sedona area. This flyer contains maps of the updated recommended designated dispersed camping areas around Sedona. Please follow those recommendations so that all may continue to enjoy the area.

Current status of access roads to the area can be found on the Flagstaff District Road Status website.

No wood or charcoal campfires are allowed in the Red Rock Ranger District. Only propane campfires are allowed.

Accessibility is not guaranteed, always scout ahead before driving down dirt roads. Learn more: Boondocking 101.

Overall Rating

Easy to find, clearly marked areas. Close to flagstaff. Litter everywhere, extremely dusty, loud neighbors with generators, spot lights, and lous music running into the night. Loud offroad vehicles blaring music and flashing LED lights. Gunfire after dark. Neighbors having campfires during a campfire ban - no fires sign clearly marked at the entrance. Ranger drove past once, didn't stop the people from having campfires. If you're looking for peace and quiet with respectful neighbors, look elsewhere.

Overall Rating

We stayed in the second camp area. Access off highway is easy. We are traveling in a minivan with a pop-up camper. No problems the road is rough but manageable if you pass the second and third campground it gets really difficult for a lower vehicle. Campsites are spaced out nicely lots of privacy, the only downside is people don’t pick up their toilet paper which happens a lot in dispersed camping. I would definitely come back here again.
