This was a very nice free site. It does requires a free permit. We weren’t able to find a level area though for our camper van. There is a small bass pond down a short trail off the campsite.

We found this campsite thanks to the Living Our Dream Now YouTube channel and boy, are we glad we did.

The campsite is large and could accommodate trailers much larger than our 5 x 8 Hiker. The site is circular so trailers can pull through instead of backing in, which is good because it would be a tight squeeze. The entrance is a bit rough from rain washout along the road. Otherwise, the overall site is in good shape other than the typical rocks and tree roots. It's very secluded and the quietness of the forest and sound of the birds are only disturbed by the occasional passing car.

This is a primitive campground so there is no water or electricity available. Water can be found at the Watering Trough located about 10 minutes away along Route 40 going West. Just make sure to bring a small piece of garden hose with a female fitting on one end if you intend to fill water jugs. Ice and limited sundries can be found at the small convenience store located in Chalk Hill, PA. If you don't have the means to gather and cut up downed wood for a fire, there are a couple of locals selling firewood along the Chalk Hill-Ohiopyle Road just outside of Chalk Hill. There is a Sunoco gas station about 12 miles from the campsite located on Rt. 40 going East. It seems to be the only station in the area other than Uniontown.

We did have AT&T cell service which worked for phone calls and text. The data connection was slow. We did find full 4G service at the golf course near the Summit Inn on Skyline Drive. The Watering Trough is also a Fayette County wifi hotspot.

There are several attractions and activities in the area such as Fort Necessity, Laurel Caverns, Falling Waters, Kentuck Knob, and Ohiopyle State Park. Ohiopyle has lots of hiking trails, watersports, eateries, and souvenir shops. The Falls Market Inn has some groceries and camping supplies along with a restaurant.

This site is an easy hour's drive from our home in North Central West Virginia and has been elevated to our top favorite local campsite.
