My first time camping here and I believe it was the best on Floodwood Rd. May 7 - 11 for early season camping before black flies were biting and DEC campgrounds were open. Day trip canoeing on Osgood Pond, Floodwood Loop, Upper St Regis Lake to Bear Pond - get a map from Raquette River Outfitters in Tupper Lake. Near the dirt road but minimal traffic - more likely during summer season.
Primitive outhouse on site and campfire sited near water. Loon pair on Middle Pond.
Alternate free camping on Jones Pond and Mountain Pond near Paul Smiths. Others> https://freecampsites.net/#!adirondack%20mountains

We stayed right across from the launch to Polliwog pond, which was more than big enough for our 20’ camper. Saw maybe 2-3 other sites that would accommodate a 20-30’ camper, otherwise it’s tent and tear drop camper sites, mostly due to narrow access to the sites themselves. Saw maybe 2-3 other sites that would accommodate a 20-30’ camper, otherwise it’s tent and tear drop camper sites, mostly due to narrow access to the sites themselves. Depending on the time of week there can be a decent amount of traffic coming down the road, but it’s not terrible.

I had a few days off so I loaded up the kayak, packed the truck for truck camping and headed out for Floodwood Road. Floodwood Road is off Route 30 in the Saranac Inn area. Floodwood Road has approximately 20 sites, the first dozen can handle big rigs and the road is really decent. The further you go back the sites can get smaller and more unlevel and some are walk to sites. None have electric, drinking water or sewer. Most have outhouses. The first 5-6 sites are on or close to Polliwog Pond. Those sites are rarely empty. I scored site 11 which is close to Floodwood Pond. The site has a fire ring, outhouse and was fairly level. It was just down from St Regis Outfitters summer operations. The sites this far back are far enough apart so they are great for privacy. Cell service was in and out depending where I set my phone. Tree cover hindered my solar. The road in starts out paved but turns to gravel. I was there for two days and traffic was mostly paddlers/fisherman going by with a few walkers and bicyclist. Closest gas/groceries are about 16 miles away in Saranac Lake. If you are going to just paddle/fish....please do not park in camping sites!! There is a parking area for day use.

We are new to RV’ing and this was our first trip boondocking. The place was beautiful and I easily fit my 30’ travel trailer in site number 9. We will definitely be back for a longer stay.
