This little gem is the best all-around free forest campground I have found, and I camp a lot in Montana and Idaho. It is easy to find right off the highway, yet because it sits below a cliff, highway noise is minimal. I arrived 6:30pm on a Saturday and found three spaces to choose from. All sites are very good. Many are beside the lovely trickling creek. The road in is graveled and well maintained. Sites are roomy, level, and spaced for privacy. The back circle of sites 7-10 allowed room for tow vehicles and extra cars. Each site has a decent picnic table and fire ring. The views of meadow, forest and creek are sublime. Although I stopped for the night while driving through, I almost stayed an extra day just to chill in this beautiful and peaceful place. Highly recommend.

Only a few sites have good access to the river and one was occupied by the camp host. I was in site 2 and had to meander through about 100 feet of grass and mud to get to the river's edge to fill my water basin.
No cell access for me with AT&T!

I am a tent camper.
There are several sites available for all size campers.
I got there by noon and set up. Throughout both days there were several campers looking for a place to stay -- it's a busy place. It filled up.
Down the road to anaconda there are several other pay camping sites.... but this one is FREE!

Anyhow, campground was nice, clean, quiet, every spot has a fire pit and almost all are creek side. It is also the only free camp pad around for quite a while, even the fishing access spots have fees. I found myself doing a lot of back country camping in these parts of Montana.

We tried to stay at Flint Creek, but were thwarted by confusing signs and tight spots. We wouldn't recommend pulling into Flint Creek if you have a large rig. With our tow vehicle and 27' Airstream, it was tight making a u-turn in the campground. The first few spots along the road are all small and better for small campers/vans/tents. The further back you go into the campground, sites are no longer numbered but are marked by fire rings. What threw us off was all these sites were behind a sign that stated the park ended and you were now on private property. The private property is managed by the Georgetown Lake Reservoir. There's a power station at the end of the road, gated off. It actually looks like a mini-town back there. However, there are about 8 campsites past that sign and to the left of the sign, and they are all public campsites. We just didn't know they were back there, and a few could accommodate large 5th wheels and single axle RVs. Some of them look like they are hardly ever used. We ended up staying down the road at the Piney Campground, but this campground has a lot to offer with canyon walls, a beautiful creek, and privacy. It's proximity to the fun town of Philipsburg is a nice bonus. Solar might be a challenge in some spots with the tree cover and high canyon walls. Cell service was strong, but the speeds with a booster were only 3-5 mbps down.

It has been stated on here that beyond the gate and the sign is not Private Land. IT IS PRIVATE LAND BEYOND THE GATE AND WE ARE THE OWNERS. The campground has 10 sites and beyond the gate is not allowed at any time without written permission.
