“Gate keepers need training”

This place could be great if some minor corrections were made. We rolled in without a reservation and Gatekeepers could not tell us which sites were available nor which ones would fit our 40' MH. We went online but no info as to which ones would accommodate. On hold 58 minutes to speak to a rep thru recreation.gov. My wife stayed on phone while I drove in toad to see. Many available would work if only some limbs were trimmed that had overgrown for years. My wife finally got thru on phone and we went to site. I had just setup and gatekeeper came and jumped me for not coming back to let them know which site. They had no network to see what sites were reserved.
*Teach gatekeepers to show areas on map where sites are
* trim limbs so RVs can use sites
* place signage at entrance road for each section of sites down that road
* provide maps to campers and their location.

Great place with minor changes. Beautiful and serene setting with group sites for multiple families to share.

There are two main camping areas. One to the south of the lake (flatrock) and one on the north side (lakeside). Both sides have beautiful lake views and beaches designed for swimming. Many sites are waterfront.

An interagency Access pass cuts overnight fees in half if fully disabled*.

There are only a few sites with full hookups and they are on Lakeside. Big rigs down to tents are welcome.

Flatrock side offers water and electricity (some 50 amp, most with 30 amp) with nearby dump stations. It is more quiet and spaced out well.

New looking fun playgrounds that have artificial shade over the entire playground. Closed now to Covid.

Deer openly wander throughout the park. Hummingbirds are present in warm months.

The lake is small among the gently rolling hills and is about 600 acres plus or minus a bit depending on water levels as this is drought country.

Mostly folks come for the swimming, boating jet skiing, fishing, etc. Lots of old oak trees for shade. Some spots have screened shelters. Very relaxing overall.

Cell service is very spotty but with a good cell phone booster is good enough to stream and download. Some/ many sites have ZERO cell service. Do your homework. They do allow a short duration tour pass for free.

During Covid-19 only the drivethru guard shack is open to give you your Display permit (not the same as national parks passes).

Reservations in advance are required via Recreation.gov. National parks passes that offer discounts are Obtained via online During Covid.

The small town of Coleman is about 6 miles from the campground. You can get the necessities there.
