Easy access from town. Sites are fine, nothing special. Showers are individual cells—nice set up.

The main attraction of the park, the sand bottom swimming pool, is not, and will not be, open for 2021. There is a water park in Mankato, about 30 minutes away.
The hiking trails are well marked and well maintained.
The park is on the edge of New Ulm. It's a nice town of 13,000 with several attractions including tours of Schell's Brewery (and samples at the end).

This was a nice park. The host was great and the park was clean. Restrooms and showers were well maintained. Several trails in the area for light hiking. Seen DNR staff patrolling the park throughout the day. The one big disadvantage is the lack of privacy. The sites are close together and offer little to no privacy. Also, the site parking pads were pretty short. We had to park our tow vehicle in the overflow parking due to the lack of space in front of our travel trailer. If staying here in the electric loop, I would recommend staying on the outside sites. They seem to have a bit larger site and longer parking pads. Personally, we will likely not stay here again due to the size of the site and lack of privacy for the price paid.

We stayed at Flandrau State Park over Labor Day weekend during the pandemic. We stayed in the "semi-modern" loop, which means electric at the site. The campground is a park-like layout with mature trees and mowed grass. The sites on the outside of the loop are a bit larger and do back up to a thin strip of forest that provides separation from other roads and parking lots in the park. The interior sites are cramped and do not provide much privacy from your neighbors. Even the larger sites on the outside of the loop are tight due to the trees being allowed too close to the pad. Our site was listed as not allowing a slide-out on the left side due to a tree. To add to the problem, the park decided the perfect place for a new tree was at the front of the site on the right side. Backing into this site was a challenge.
The park itself has many nice trails and an interesting sand bottomed swimming hole (closed during the pandemic). In addition, the park sits on the edge of New Ulm, a wonderful little "German" town that include the historic August Schell Brewery. In fact, there is a walking trail from the park to the brewery's biergarden. These amenities make up for the tight campsites.

We stayed here so we could go to Bavarian blast. The only spot available was in the rustic Campground. The campsite wasn't terribly big and had a tree in the middle but it was enough to get our camper in. The campsites do not offer a lot of privacy. The sites along the perimeter offer the most. The center sites are really just a big open area with zero separation between the sites. There was a lot of kids in the Campground all of whom were loud and shrieky. I'd suggest not using the site next to us (88) since all the water seems to run there and pool in that camp site. The water from the freshwater at the dump station doesn't taste great but it was the same at local restaurants so it's probably the area. The dump station was kinda muddy.
