Overview of Fivemile Meadow Designated Dispersed Campsite 16

Camping is only allowed at designated campsites in Delaware State Forest. Reservations and permits are required and can be made online or over the phone. Campfires are prohibited from March 1 - May 25 without authorization from the state forest.

Black bears frequent the area. When not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking utensils, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in a bear-proof storage container.

“Campsite was really a parking lot for hunters”

Overall Rating

This campsite is in the middle of state hunting land and was in use as a parking lot for local hunters. There is a fire pit and picnic table but was not possible to set up near them due to the multiple parked trucks. i might consider trying again when it isn't hunting season and with a large group as it is very remote and would not have felt safe alone. I left and found another campground 15 miles away.

As of 11/3/2022, Delaware State Forest campsites are no longer free. Reservations are $15/night plus $6.50 reservation fee and must be made through Reserveamerica.

So I spent $21.50 for a campsite I was unable to use, and then $40.50 for another campsite at Promised Land State Park. $13 in reservation fees alone.

Primitive, middle of nowhere, good dirt road. Mostly turnouts some are very nice. Tent or small units vans, small class C.
