We stayed here as a home base for touring Painted Hills and Sheep Rock units of the John Day Fossil Beds (which we really enjoyed). The trip to the Painted Hills is a fairly long drive from the rv park, but there is nice scenery along the road. The rv park has lovely green grass & spot #4 is off to the edge with neighbors on one side only. It is a well kept, clean park with lots of grass and trees, & friendly owners. Our only downside was a large rv (one of 3 in a group) with several teens, which pulled in next to us on our last night. Because the spaces are close together, we listened to the loud shutting of their door well into the early morning and the heater cycling off & on all night long.

There isn’t much as far as grocery shopping in Dayville, OR so I’d recommend stocking up before you go. This is the best option, in my opinion, for exploring John Day Fossil Beds National Monument as it is only about 10 minutes from the main section (visitor center) of the monument.
The park WiFi wasn’t super fast, but it was usable at 3.96Mbps download, 1.32Mbps upload. Verizon speeds with the booster were, 20.3Mbps download, 1.44Mbps upload.

In the morning the owner nosed around the camper without saying hello to make sure we hadn’t damaged his tree since we had to park so close to that side.
Two full bathrooms available to campers with a sign requesting us to wipe the shower walls and floors after showering- fair- however we are paying to use the facilities should we also be responsible to maintain it?
Laundry facility not available to campers till after checkout, when the Inn laundry was done. Then $5 to wash and dry a small load. $10 to wash and dry a large load.
We moved on. The focus is obviously on the Inn with campers an addition.

We stayed here to visit John Day Fossil Beds based on our friends review. This is a charming park with six beautiful, large sites. Sites are gravel and level with a huge separation. Most of the sites are shaded. If you have a roof top satellite dish tell them when you call so they can give a site that will have open sky for the dish. Each site has FHU's. The owners are very friendly. There is remodeled laundry and bathrooms. I only gave it four stars for noise since the park is near the road that isn't very busy.

Lots of beautiful green grass and trees. Walk to everything in town including a nice local café and mercantile.
Stayed here because if is only eight miles to the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument - much better than the nearly 40 miles from John Day.
No AT&T coverage.

After a visit to the Painted Hills unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument (highly recommended), we were looking for a spot to stay the night before heading to the paleontology center at the Sheep Rock unit. Tho not listed on Campendium (which may have been for a reason), a web search turned up a county (town?) park in Mitchell with 3 water/electric sites and tent camping, but a a drive by was all it took to give the Mitchell park a unanimous pass. Just a random run down gravel parking lot (pull out is more like it) and a desolate looking park and the end of a pretty much abandoned main street. 45 minutes down the road, we found the Fish House Inn and RV park which was a pretty little park (13 spaces I think) behind a nice inn. Blooming trees and clean sites. A nice stopover while exploring the John Day area.
