Overall Rating
This is a small (15 sites), quiet Forest Service campground near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Campers often stay here the night before beginning their BW trips because it is close to Ely to PU permits and supplies and to numerous entry points.
Most of the campsites are quite private, some with lake views. Some leveling was required. This is dry camping. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table (wood is available to purchase from the host). The biffies are dispersed around the campground and are kept very clean. There is a nice swimming beach and a fishing pier and it’s easy to launch a canoe or kayak. If you wish to hike, go back toward Ely to the Bass Lake parking lot where there are several trails.

Overall Rating
Fenske Lake Campground is located on Fenske Lake near Ely, MN. The location is perfect for those wanting to day trip into the BWCA. Fenske Lake itself is a pretty little lake with access to other lakes via portages.
