Nice boondocking spot. Be careful of driving up the mountain, the further you go, the harder it is on your vehicle.

Yes - it was rocky to climb up. It's the desert! But we made it in a minivan. Just proceed at your own risk. Safe - and we woke to a pretty epic sunrise.

Found this spot on our way through Carlsbad. Just a pull off from the highway that leads to Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains NP. We just needed a quick stop gap, not going to the parks. Very clean, just one broken bottle and a few shards of glass, but nothing like we’ve seen at other sites. Cows in the area, the wind wasn’t too bad through the night. Parked the truck just right for wind to move through it. There’s a few spots to choose from as you work your way up. Be mindful though this isn’t paved, easy terrain to drive through. The road is pretty rough for big RVs, vans could do it, sedans be careful. The campsites have fire rings which is nice, some spots are small, but you can go pretty far back up the road. Happy Camping!

Lots of big rocks (2”-5”), sharp rocks, big holes, and large ruts. We made it ok, but it wasn’t pleasant. We walked up more and it gets nice at top, but there is a lot of bad road to get there. Going out in the morning we noticed a spot near the highway.
We could see the Highway from our spot, but it was very quiet.
Only 2-3 miles to the turn off to Carlsbad Caverns.

This site was great for us. 20 mins to town and 25 mins to Carlsbad Caverns. As you turn in off the highway there is a big site to the left. You can continue up the road (it gets pretty bumpy) and there are several others to choose from. I wouldn’t advise going past the 3rd site if you’re towing as the road gets very bumpy. It’s an oil road up to a pad so it’s pretty rough. Even though we were near the hwy it was still quiet at night. We would definitely stay here again.
Nearest propane refill is in white city but they don’t refill on the weekends.

Road is a little tough for bigger rigs. I have a 4x4 and 24’ TT. I wouldn’t try taking something much bigger very far in.

We pulled in with our 38' fifth wheel. We didn't want to stay right by the road so we decided to explore the higher up spots. We read a review that said it was too rough for RVs. I'm pretty adventurous so I figured we'd give it a try anyway. We dropped the fifth wheel and drove up to see the other spots. It was rough. Really rough. We've stayed at other spots that require driving down rough dirt roads, but this had huge ruts and big rocks. For us, it wasn't possible to get the RV up without breaking something inside because of the rough ride. Also, all of the spots had huge rocks that you would have to navigate around with your rig. We ended up staying down the road at "Mile 10 Dispersed." https://www.campendium.com/mile-10-dispersed
