This spot has gotten too popular.
It is on private property, and access to the lower level is no longer available, as is camping on top. Sadly, over the summer, several groups abused the privilege, by leaving garbage and mess for others. If you visit, leave no trace!!

As you drive along the Farwell Canyon Forest Rd, near KM 21, there is a side loop on the north side, just west of the large bridge. This is the access road to the campsites. There are 2 separate areas to camp. The upper zone has a narrow trail out to the point, which provides a spectacular view of the canyon below, as the river makes the 180 degree turn below. It can get windy up here, so if tenting, do it cautiously. I lost mine to a sudden gust. Once it falls off the cliff - you can kiss it goodbye!! The lower area next to the river is a nice grassy area that even has a donated outhouse that someone set up - thank you, whoever you are! The road down to this area is rough, but longer rigs, including a horse trailer have made it, but take it slow.. If you have a campfire - please use one of the existing fire rings, and be careful, as the tall grass gets very dry in summer. There are also more flies down here as well, so pick your poison - wind or bugs!.
Having used both locations, my slight preference is the lower zone, as the river is a ready source of water, even if it's just to wash your hair. There are some older abandoned farm building down here , one of which can be a cooking shelter. I was treated to a spectacular rain storm here, and the effect on the sandstone walls all around you is dramatic, as long as you watch out for lightning on the upper point.
As a final note, this is an "unofficial" campsite, that depends on the respect and cooperation of all who use it. Please keep it clean and pack out all trash. I always try to pick up some trash, even if only a few cigarette butts, at every campsite, to leave it better than I found it. If we all did that, there would never be a problem.
