Are there javelinas in this area? Also is the ground covered in spiky goatheads?

It’s a set up, felt safe at first until I realized... why it’s free in this location? Hm.. right by border with shooting 10 mins away, seems like a dangerous place to be by yourself, locals are left alone but had stalker activity many instances. Lots of people with suspicious intentions. People will swear up and down it’s not like this though... what other place is so free accessible and convenient?

This is a great spot to chill out a few days. I enjoyed staying on the west side near the water tower. I had a water hook up and dumping the gray was ok. Nice place to watch the sun rise and set!

To what the other reviewers have said I just want to add that it appears that an informal community has sprung up around this free, no time limit, campground. The county does very little maintenance (the brick / concrete picnic tables at each site have completely decayed into ruin, EG) so the full-timers here have banded together to make sure things remain clean and orderly. For instance, somebody built a wooden shelf for the shower room, and it's clear that people pitch in to buy supplies for the bathroom. The day after I arrived one of the volunteers swung around to my campsite just to say hi and tell me what amenities were available. The flipside is that the campground is big so you can just go off and ignore everybody, if you prefer. :-)
Also, very good cell coverage for me with verizon. 92 Mbps download and 17 Mbps upload.
Note too that if you arrive at night it can be pretty hard to find the entrance (a State Patrol officer spent 10 minutes trying to help me find the entrance and we were only 50 yards away!), even though the park was clearly marked on Google Maps. Once you get to the four-way stop that's next to the park, you continue west on 'FM Rd 2098 spur' towards the Falcon Dam about 25 to 50 yards, and there will be a dirt road to your right (you are entering the park from the south). As you swing your headlights up that road you will see the recessed sign for the park.

Great place. The only bad is the lifer campers. A couple very nosey and rude. They have been here too long and think they own the place. They are not even TEXANS either.

The only improvement would be free electricity (there is no electricity). But we loved it. We stayed 7 nights for a much needed cooldown. Quite a few full-timers there, some who said they've been there for over a year due to the pandemic. They were very cool people. Will definitely stay there again if we head back through that area. Just 1 miles sout of Falcon STATE Park with hiking trails, swimming and fishing, tent and RV camping with full hookups. 1.5 miles from the Mexico border.

Water spigots rise up out of the ground all over the place. Again, no rhyme or reason that I could see.
There is a little store within walking distance with super friendly owners that like to talk.
Most people parked about 150' apart while I was there but you could park 300 yards away if you want. The road that goes around the park is a little over a mile long. There is a huge section of dense growth for tent only campers. RV's wont fit.
I had 100% signal strength on AT&T and 3 bars on Verizon. I only used AT&T because Verizon sent me a message saying that I was out of the country and my data was limited to 500 Mb even on my unlimited plan. They apparently don't know where the border is.
Many people drive to the State park next door for the butterfly and bird sanctuaries.

Great place to stay for a few nights. Bathrooms are only so-so but they’re flush and have hot & cold running water. Did not use shower. Dumpster available. Great Verizon signal. Roads very rutted - take slow.
