The road is long and rough. If you have AWD you’ll be fine and if you don’t go very slow! The campground has vault toilets and even if it’s full there are many locations to park along the road for dispersed camping. I didn’t have good Verizon cell service. But the views alone are worth making the trip here!

Beautiful spot with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and quick access to an equally beautiful lake. We didn’t experience noisy campers as other users had mentioned (we did stay during the weekdays so that could be it), but we did wake up around 2 am to find 15 or so mountain goats surrounding our vehicle. They were head butting each other right into our car and other campers mentioned the goats bumping into their tents, we were told this is a common occurrence. Overall, this spot is definitely worth the rough and bumpy ride up the mountain and the possibly visit of some goats.

Beautiful campground surrounded by mountains with easy access to Sacagawea Peak and Fairy Lake. Vault toilets (with TP!), picnic table, fire ring and water at the trail head. Thursday night was quiet but Friday and Saturday night the party people rolled in. Some were up all night and most did not store food correctly. I would come back again on the weekdays, but if you come on the weekend be prepared to either not sleep or stay at one of dispersed sites on the road in. Which as mentioned, is quite bumpy but if you have high clearance shouldn’t be a problem.

We arrived on a Saturday night and there were only a few open spots, so clearly a popular place, but still very quiet. We pulled in after dark and woke up to a lovely sunrise through the trees. Fairy Lake is a lovely short walk from the parking lot. There are several vault toilets, and sites have tables, fire rings, and plenty of trees for your hammock.

This small forest service camp is a bit of a trek - 7 miles of rough, steep dirt road from the highway. I think the last time any maintenance was done on the road was at least 10 years ago...
Access is limited to July - September at the best. The road doesn't open before July 1 but could be later depending on snow pack and road conditions. Camp closes fairly early too in mid September. Expect cold nights no matter what thanks to the elevation (7500').
This area is very popular with locals all week but weekends will be the busiest. Expect a lot of traffic coming through camp if the trailhead parking lot is full. Lots of traffic on the road as well and most of them have no idea how to drive on a single lane road. Don't expect anyone to yield to you. Also, don't expect your fellow campers to be quiet.
Camp has the basic amenities of a table, fire ring, water pump, and pit toilet. All sites are in good condition as the camp was remodeled just a few years ago. Also, due to the remodel, there are not a lot of trees in camp so expect to be in the sun most of the day.
Views in the area and the lake are second to none. Great hike up to Sacagawea Peak and along the ridge of the Bridgers. Good fishing in the lake so long as you don't mind getting kids and dogs tangled in your line.

“Opens July 1st”
noted 5/22/2022
Wasn’t able to make it to the campgrounds as they open July 1st.
There are some camping spots along the way to the gate, but not many.
