We really enjoyed our stay in site 85. The pad was level, and the site was well maintained with a short, little path straight to the water.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The camp hosts were WONDERFUL! We had a problem with our water connections on our trailer (not a problem with the park's water), and the camp host came down with tools, helped us get it fixed, and checked on us later to be sure it was still working!
Bathrooms were clean. Trails were well maintained. They had a really cool Christmas event where many of the sites were completely decorated for Christmas. Santa and Mrs. Claus were there in their sleigh for pictures, live Christmas music, hot cocoa, cookies, face painting, and hayrides. It was a wonderful time for the whole family!
We were able to do some geocaching, see a variety of birds on the birdwatching trail, and for the history lovers out there, there is a very interesting cemetery to visit on site. We caught fish from the bank, swam in December, and enjoyed remarkable sunsets.
No full hookups, so the dumpsite is busy at checkout time. Not a complaint. Just a reminder. The roads in and out were good, easy for towing our 36' toy hauler (without toys of course, because they're not allowed in TX state parks).
We will be back!

Nice pull through site with water and electricity.nice space between neighbors. Great biking and hiking trails. Lots of wildlife; deer, raccoons, armadillos.,squirrels and the occasional scorpion and snake. Two boat launches and small children play grounds in each area. Three miles from check in office to campsite. Stayed in site #85.
No wi-fi and spotty cell service with VERIZON. Clean restroom. Our sis could have used a mow job. Overall nice campground.would stay again.

My stay for two nights over a holiday with temperatures ranging from 34-70F degrees (thanks fall in TX) in a travel trailer was enjoyable. I've listed below some of the main points that I typically like to know about that are hopefully helpful to others.
Pros:
- Large campsites: I had a little more privacy as others since I had a pull-through on the water, while back-in sites were a little closer to each other. They were still nicely spread out and came with a picnic table and fire pit, which was set a few steps away from the asphalt pad for vehicles/RV. There were a few stairs from the RV to the picnic table on my site, but not all sites had stairs between the two.
- Availability: While I stayed over a holiday, there were multiple sites still available the day before I booked, which can be a benefit for those whose movements are last minute like mine.
- Staff and check-in: Staff was very nice and check-in was a breeze.
- Scenery: The campground is nestled within the trees and directly on the lake. Most sites seem shaded, for those with solar concerns.
- Water/electric: Water pressure seemed good and electric worked fine on my site.
- Trash: There were trashcans dispersed throughout the campground and I did not notice a lot of litter.
For your awareness:
- Cell service and TV: Verizon and AT&T service is very poor. While I could mostly send/receive text messages, using apps, googling and streaming videos was hit or miss. Websites took forever to load, or didn't at all. When they did, service was typically interrupted. Not a con depending on your purpose camping, but as a full-timer, this is how I stay connected, so just mentioning for those who depend on connectivity when traveling. I did not get any channels with the old-fashioned TV antenna.
- Disrespectful (loud) camp-goers: While this may have been attributed to the holiday and is not the fault of the park staff, this campground is loud. It seems to attract large gatherings where the kids are left to wander and dogs are tied up outside barking non-stop. I was startled on numerous occasions of mostly teenagers wandering through my campsite. As someone with a young reactive dog that barks when triggered, I try to be mindful of his barking around others, as well as for the stress he can be under. I'm always surprised by people who choose to leave their dogs out in public areas barking relentlessly. This was my experience during my stay so I can't say it's always like this, but I can see the appeal of this campground attracting large groups, which increases the likelihood of this behavior. I'm all for everyone having fun and letting loose, but just a forewarning for those looking for a more quiet, respectful environment. It's likely more quiet farther away from the restrooms, so I suggest booking those sites if you're looking for less obnoxious noise.
- Remote: This campground is not close to services. It's about 3 miles from HQ/check-in to the campsites, and another 5/6 miles to the closest gas station. Stock-up ahead of time.
- Registration: When booking the reservation on Reserve America, "Tent" was the only option under primary equipment (even though my campsite had the RV electric icon on the map). Typically that dropdown would mean that is all that can be accommodated, but it is inaccurate. As long as your desired site has the RV icon, you should be fine.

It is a long drive from headquarters to the campground, but once you’re there the sites are nice, with most being level and many having a nice view of the lake. There was nice spacing between sites.
All hookups worked well, and other campers were extremely quiet, so it was really nice. Lots of armadillos and wild pigs here!

Wife and I stayed here on first week of March at site 95 with water and electric it was leveled, clean, and about 200ft from restrooms with shower. Park has nice long hiking and biking trails with scenic views. Would have given it 5 stars but a group of about 16 men women and children that occupied two sites with tents were very loud it would have been tolerable but they were cursing and played music loud. Our neighbors and us contacted park rangers who drove by a few time and it helped a little. So if it wasn't for the inconsiderate group who were at least 3 camp sites away this would have been a 5 star review.

The park itself is absolutely stunning! Beautiful trees, the water was great (though the talk of the power plant was worrisome), and the trails were wonderful. The people, however, were... rowdy. Not all, but I’d say 80% of the time we spent there was listening to screaming, crying, yelling, hollering, barking, or someone’s loud something. Also, we got to enjoy over populated campsites and political flags. We go camping to get away from crowds and politics so that was super defeating. Park staff did nothing about the overcrowding (4+ tents plus RVs plus their cars and all those guests... in multiple sites).
We have been to about 30 state parks and this was the least peaceful. Really unfortunate since the park is so beautiful.

This park is on a power plant lake so the water is warm year round and that means great fishing! Stocked with Red Drum and Tillipa as well as all of the other fresh water fish found in Texas this one is a fisherman's dream!
Our last visit was in June so the park was very crowded on the weekend but Monday morning it was empty and so very quiet! We even saw a fawn just at the edge of our campsite!
If you have not been here then make plans to go!
