Basically this area is a large field with small rolling hills covered in thick sage brush. the access forest road cuts through the sage brush from the highway and is easy to navigate at slow speeds. there are flattened areas off the access road with enough room for a 30 foot rig. I didn't go far from the highway and both of the first areas were covered in trash, bottles and plastic. it is a nice location, but the trash and inability to move further from the access road made it less desirable. when you include the fact I had no data service from 3 providers, I decided to move on (I had only T-mobile for 3g voice calls and no data)

“Couldn't access Tres Piedras due to a blocked road, lucky we found this gem in the dark!! ”

Quite close to 285, but quiet and beautiful. We were lucky to find this spot at 9 pm in the darkness, when we pulled off the road after struggling to access the Tres Piedras spot just south of there. The 'spots' aren't clearly marked, but just look for spaces where rigs have pulled off the main road before. I'm guessing there are 7 or so, depending on how big your rig is. Woke up to a beautiful sunrise and took a walk down the road, and hopped back on 285!
