“It would be perfect if it had cell service and no cows!”

I only stayed one night, but I enjoyed it very much. The "Designated Dispersed Camping Site #2" that I stayed in wasn't exactly "lakeside", but it was less than 100 feet from the lake and had a full view of the lake and surrounding mountains.

I would have stayed a week if there was 4G, but alas there wasn't any Verizon cell signal whatsoever!

The cows weren't a nuisance themselves, but the cow pies were everywhere! The ranchers were rounding them up as I left so they probably won't be there again until next summer.

The "fee area" camping area called Honeycomb Rocks Campground was really something unique and special and definitely worth seeing! Unfortunately, it was closed to camping, presumably due to Covid-19 (or their season ended in October maybe? It was pretty cold overnight! In the high 30s.) It was open for walking around, though, and there were some spectacular rock formations and super unique camp sites with picnic tables in caves and fire pits in chasms, etc. I've never seen a campground quite like it.

Honeycomb Rocks Campground is definitely not for big rigs, but would be a lot of fun for tent campers and small RVs! The dispersed camping was good for any size rig, but I didn't go past the first 6 campsites. Beyond that, I don't know. Also worth noting is that the views are actually the best from the gravel parking lot near the information signs. The sunsets are really nice from there because there is a wider view of the mountain ranges beyond the lake. If you don't mind close neighbors, that might be the best spot.

NOTE: I'm talking about the upper reservoir. I didn't explore the lower reservoir, but there are many other sites down there and between there and the upper reservoir.

HIGHLIGHT: Bald eagles "fishing" in the lake during sunrise! One did a flyby within about 20 feet of my window!

“Lakeside Camping, must be self-contained”

We have camped here several times in our trailer over the past few months. Lakeside dispersed camping is competitive, so get there early on a Friday if you plan to be there over a weekend. Spots at the Upper Reservoir near the big rocks usually go first. The lower reservoir is quieter and lakeside spots are easier to obtain. The scenery at the lower reservoir is not as nice, though we’ve had better luck fishing at the lower reservoir. The lake does get pretty busy with a fair amount of ATV activity and kayakers, which we don’t mind, but it may be an important point for others. No shade trees. No cell service. Check the weather before you go - it can get very windy. A nice getaway in Southern Utah if you are self-contained as you can camp right on the lake.
