We'd stayed in Patrick Point State Park before and weren't fans, so decided to try Emerald Forest. Even getting into the park to the office was a challenge as the steep drive was full of large potholes. It was very muddy, due to recent rains. Gravel gravel could have mitigated that—there was none on the roads or the sites. It's very crowded, with small, closely packed sites. The forest it's jammed into is dense, so it's very dark. There are two bathrooms: one single and one with men's and women's sides, three sinks/toilets/showers each, but one of the women's showers was not working. The bathrooms were clean and the shower good. I'd give "cleaniless" four stars if it weren't so muddy—and I'm sure dusty in the non-rainy season. The park is right next to 101, though the trees muffle some of the noise.

We were lucky enough to get a spot on the Patrick’s Point Rd side of the campground where the noise from the 101 was barely noticeable, if at all.
The campground itself is pretty beautiful, set among the redwoods. Staff were friendly and helpful. Cell signal was enough to work off of but was occasionally weak.

When booking you don’t get to select your sites, they just assign one and not tell you.
WiFi was not that great/reliable. Cell service was available but spotty and slow.
Trash cans were overfilling and a mess.

This was a great RV park that is within the redwoods so it gives you a feel of camping in the woods but still having full hook ups. It also has a lot of cabins which seemed nice. Only issue we had was the sewer was filled up one day and the other it seemed like it wasn’t taking fluid very well. Kind of like it was starving for air. ... more

Assuming that was a one off but not enough of an issue to not stay here.

Emerald Forest Cabins & RV offers cabin rentals as well as RV and tent camping. The campground conveniently placed right off of the highway 101. A quaint little town called Trinidad is about 1 minute drive away -it has a grocery store, restaurants and gas station!
The park has a nice layout, has firepits, playgrounds, pet areas, restrooms as well as laundry.
The park offers pull-through sites with full hook ups, back-in sites, partial hook ups as well as dry camping.
It was a nice setting with all the redwoods. I appreciated the bark park area where you could let your dog off leash to play. The kids used the wifi so they could watch some shows to wind down for bed.The only slight negative was you got some traffic noise from the freeway.
We stayed at site 86 -it was a pull through site, easy to get to. Our friends stayed at site 72 which was quite small and hard to level.
Overall I give this place a 5 star. We loved being tucked under the woods and exploring in the majestic green area.

We stayed here for two and a half weeks in a pop up and also got a site for my sister in an A class.
First, the staff at the desk were super helpful and accommodating as I had to move around a bit to be near my family. They were super understanding and did everything they could to help.
Wi-Fi was great. Maybe just off season, but I was able to work reliably taking video calls the entire stay.
Facilities were good. Nice clean showers. The eastern lot has a larger bath house and the lot on the west side has a building with private bathrooms.
The lots vary significantly. The front desk tries to accommodate your needs. Like other reviewers, I found the pull through spots to be the best. Larger with lots of nature.
The tent lot is really beautiful. It was off season and empty when we stayed and I’d walk through it in the afternoon to unwind from work. Like a private forest.
The location is fantastic. Very short drive from everything you want to do, and easy access to the the charming restaurants in Trinidad. Plus an unusually well stocked grocery store (diaper wipes, fresh crab, beer, produce, fishing poles).
We cannot wait to come back.

Beautiful RV park, nestled amongst redwoods, is clean and well-maintained. Staff was very friendly. Close to downtown Trinidad (though most things were closed due to COVID-19). Close to the ocean and lots of walking trails around. Only problem was cable issues. We changed sites once early on, but that didn't really help, though we were able to get one DISH satellite through a gap in the trees. Our site had 30A, full hook-up service. WI-FI was generally ok. They have laundry and showers, though we had our own. Little store for general needs in park, but small grocery store in town. I suggest visiting or ordering from The Larrupin, a restaurant just two minutes down the road. Very good food and service. We ordered curbside pickup since there was no dine-in due to COVID. We would love to go back to Trinidad when all of this is over and would definitely consider staying again at Emerald Forest.

This campground has a state park feel with private campground amenities. You are under the shade of the redwoods and it has a great feel to it. There are nice restrooms and laundry facilities on site. The general store has a good selection of wine, beer, firewood, snacks and camping supplies. As another reviewer mentioned, the higher numbered sites (90s?) are along the back edge of the park and are right next to Hwy 101. They are great sites but you do get some road noise. If this would be a problem for you, talk with the front desk about getting a site on the opposite side of the park. Those back up against the local road and that road is much quieter. The town of Trinidad is a very nice, quiet little town. It has a few simple but great restaurants and a gas station and grocery store. You are a short drive to Redwood National Park and Eureka and Arcata too. The only cons are: 1. They only have 30amp sites, that I could tell. In the winter, this was no issue. With all of the shade, it may not be too much of a problem in the summer either. 2. They don’t have enough lighting around the RV sites and it is difficult to see when driving at night. 3. It rains a lot in the winter and the park tends to have a lot of mud and puddles along the driving paths. None of these cons are deal breakers though and, when we return to this area, we’ll definitely stay here again.

We tend to pick state parks but a lot of SPs in this area have short length restrictions to protect the trees. If you have a bigger rig but still want to camp between redwood trees, this is a great choice!
PROS:
- beautiful trees
- full hook up, great value
- nice little amenities like coin op laundry, recycling center, great general store, playground and arcade for kids
- 5 minutes to the beach, 25 minutes to Eureka, 20 minutes to Redwoods NP visitors center in Orick, 1 hr to Humboldt Redwoods SP
- excellent Verizon cell signal, 10 down/2 up
Cons:
- small sites
- some very close together
The low number sites back up to the local road, the high number sites back up to 101 & are noisier. Look up a map in advance. Most campgrounds the pull through are more parking lot-y but I think they’re actually more nature-y here, I would pick a pull through next time.
Very high quality private campground, would return!
