We set up on the highest ridge overlooking the field and eastern butte, with the stream behind us, and the views were stunning. Mule deer grazed in the field, unfortunately we didn’t see any elk. There are male and female side pit toilets, and the USFS came early one morning to clean out the pits and clean inside the structure. There were a few day users who hiked or fished. We hiked the Elk Creek trail- more great views. The Duck Lake trailhead wasn’t clearly marked, unlike some USFS trails that post maps or other details about the area. Don’t forget to download AllTrails for an offline map- I wish I had remembered! I absolutely loved it here!

Very beautiful open field with a few places that offer trees and shade. I was there in June 2023 and the creeks are full of water and flowing rapidly. Lots of wonderful hikes in the area. Not too far off the major highway. The first night I had the entire area to myself. The next night a few other campers stopped, but everybody is very polite and respected your privacy and distance. There is a pit toilet available that was in decent shape however, there was no toilet paper, so as always, make sure to bring your own.

We enjoyed this spot. Pulled in at night after realizing the regular campground was closed for the season. It was a little eerie as a previous freak late summer snowstorm had downed a lot of branches on the road. It was navigable however in our class B van. This is a sizeable dispersed camping area in a grassy meadow situated right next to the Duck Lake Trail & Elk Creek Trail entrances. We didn't stay overnight, but scoped it out while accessing the trails. Definitely a busy place as there were several large groups of families/campers spread out throughout the meadow. There's one vault toilet available, but no other hook-ups. Not a lick of cell phone service in the area, so be prepared.
