Eighth Lake State Park is actually situated between Seventh and Eighth Lake of the Fulton Chain Canoe trail. The campsites situated around Seventh Lake tend to be larger and more spread out than the campground loop centered around Eighth Lake, which were closer together. Not many campsites are on the water.

In typical Adirondack style, the sites are dirt and tend to be uneven. The bathrooms are basic – flush toilets and hot showers. So if you wish for more, then there are commercial campgrounds in Old Forge.

Then why stay here. This area offers great paddling, opportunity to see the Great Camp, Sagamore, and visit the near by funky little town of Inlet, that has a good book store, a few restaurants, a few shops, a small grocery store, and a great ice cream shop. They also offer summer concerts in the park by the lake.

If you come for Durand Days the first weekend in August, then you can partake of various activities. If you are a fan of Adirondack Great Camps, and are lucky enough to get a reservation, you can visit to Huntington Pine Knot Great Camp, which is only open to the public once a year. Another treat, the same weekend it the church bazaar at Big Moose Lake. They offer boat tours of the lake and the Adirondack style church is open to view.

Cell service in the Adirondacks is very limited. You usually have to go to town to find wifi or possibly cell reception.

There is an additional fee for camping for non-residents of NY.
