The only grocery store on the island is small, cramped and very expensive. Be sure to stock up before you arrive!

I love how far the rv to each other. Our spot is near the beach and it was so quiet except with the ocean. I love it. We booked there without any idea what does this location offer I’m glad we did. It was amazing. No sewage but I’m glad our spot is near the restroom. Restroom is clean too. Staffs are nice.

Excellent cell service — Verizon— 2+ bars most of the time.
Roll out the front gate and you’re in the little beach town Easy biking: wide shoulders, decent pavement and great sight lines. Nice local bar/ restaurant 500 yards away

Lovely quiet campground. Friendly hosts. Water/Elec, but dump is just across the local road
Lovely and dark in the evening. Not many RVs while during the week. Campsites easily accessible (30ft 5th&F250), although being fairly close, plenty of vegetation/brush to afford privacy.
Single bath-house, men's side had 3 showers, 3 toilets.
pretty close to local road, not much traffic. low volumes at night
Would love to return in summer.

Arrival and check-in were easy. The staff was friendly.
The sites are roomy with lots of trees between most sites. Our site (124) is an partial exception; one neighbor is a short distance away but offset so we have privacy and a nice view. The trees can present a problem getting into some sites with a large rig. We have a 37' fifth wheel and spend about 30 minutes backing into this site. We are not novices; we've been full time for over three years. Overhanging branches on both sides and trees, combined with a blind side back-in, made it very challenging. Most of the sites appear to be blind side back-ins. Most sites are level. Ours was a three block side-to-side difference. Front to rear was pretty level.
These are water and electric sites. We have 50A. There is a dump station across the state road. The bath house is clean and reasonably maintained. The area is very quiet.
We are both learning photography so this area is wonderful for us. There are beaches, woods, marshes, and beautiful sunrise/sunsets. I haven't yet tried the golf course in town.

This was our first trip to the southern coast of South Carolina. I was unable to book a site on the beach side of the camp, but was pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed the Live Oak section of the state park campground. In fact, after exploring the beach side campground I prefer the Live Oak Campground for the perfectly shaded spots and the private feeling the trees/shrubbery growing between the campsites in most sections.
My three boys (5,10, and 12) had a great time riding their bikes around the campground and also enjoyed the salt marsh that backed up to the campground. Of course they found the mud and the mud found its way all over them but that’s part of the memories created with camping.
The bathhouse was clean and supplied even though it was a busy weekend of the summer the ranger/host kept it clean. Even though it was placed at the entrance of the campground, it seemed to be central to the majority of the campsites with a short distance to walk.
The park host was amazing and has been in the area for many years. She gave us a few good tips of where to go and what to see. We arrived at the beach early in the morning to beat the crowd (advice given by the park host!) and glad we did, as the day use beach parking lot was full before lunch-time. The parking pass from Live Oak allowed us into the beach parking lot without having to pay any extra, which was a nice unexpected perk.
One thing that would be an improvement is a bike-trail/sidewalk created a little off the roadway allowing campers to walk/bike to the beach as it is less than a mile from the Live Oak Campground. There is a bike lane that is on the roadway which is fine for adults, but biking/walking with children would be a little concerning with the amount of vehicles that travel back and forth.
Also, the row of campsites that were connected with mine (site 91) backed up to the roadway and could hear the traffic, even though you couldn’t see it through the greenery. Plus…. Do Not Forget the Bud Spray! It is a natural marsh and the marsh does what it is supposed to by housing multiple different biting insects!
All in all, our family will be back to enjoy the tranquil island of Edisto, SC.

I had always heard about the two Edisto state park campgrounds and wanted to check them out. Make reservations a year ahead for the beach campground. We chose the Live Oak Campground and got site 120 along the marsh. There is a big power box in the middle of the site, but it didn’t stop us from enjoying the incredible view. We thought we’d be eaten up by mosquitoes, but in June they weren’t bad at all, didn’t even set up our screen room. Had a nice breeze off the marsh as well, which we noticed was not the same with the other sites. Bath house is decent, and that’s where the strongest WiFi is.
We were supposed to camp 4 nights but our pop up wouldn’t pop up, so we stayed at a hotel in Beaufort and did some sightseeing while researching YouTube for work arounds. We managed to get the camper up and spend the last two nights at the campground. Very quiet, lots of space and privacy between sites 122 and 112. Some sites are on top of each other (82/83) so definitely check out the pics on the website.
We think it is no problem to stay here and drive to the beach, about 1/2 mile away. You can park at the State Park for free with your vehicle tag, or there are lots of tiny beach accesses all the way down Palmetto Blvd (Hwy 174). Note you can’t rent or have a golf cart at this campground because you’re not allowed to drive them on 174 to get into town. Bikes are good to have - there are trails to ride from the campground and it’s a quick ride down to the beach/Food Lion, although it’s a small bike lane so def something to consider with kids.
All in all, we loved it here so much we’ve already rebooked for next summer. Trying the beach campground for something different, but the marsh front sites at Live Oak are excellent.
