When I drove in the first things I did was stop at the pay station to get an envelope and look at what's on the boards about the camp ground the board said it was 12 a night... but on the pay box it was taped up and says " no fee required" social did not pay... I looked on line when I went to town a day later to get ice and I looked up the park... Google maps said the camp ground was temporarily closed... I did not see park worker at all... there were 3 or 4 other sites with very small tents in them and the group camp about 8big tents up... the drive I'm from the asphalt is about 1.5 miles and the first main part of the gravel road was nice but once you turn on the the echo park camp road the road is wide but washe boarded the entire way to the Boat ramp split... the pit toilet was clean and only had 1 roll of tp but room for 6 total... this tell me not many park fokes around... the sites are mostly level some very wide camping areas for tents some have large gravel pad but would some menovering to one side of the site for full use of area... I would stay here over and over again it nice and quiet... on a side note some camp sites had stacked wood piles to burn I suspect that forest service piled it in sites when trees woildcl blow over on the road or in a site...

“Great 3 day stay as a base for our adventures in Voyageurs NP and Superior NF. ”

This was a great first campsite for us as we embark on our National Parks adventure. Our plan was to use the campsite as a base to explore the surrounding area, which for us included a day trip to Voyageurs NP and a day of hiking around Superior NF. This campground is a remote, rustic option with fairly spacious sites, vault toilets, and a solar powered water pump. We arrived in late May and from what we could tell we were the only campers there. The downsides were the mosquitoes - they were everywhere and relentless. I’m not sure if they were just looking for the closest warm bodies or if the campground’s location right along a lake is a breeding ground but bring the bug spray if visiting in late May. There was also a lot of garbage within our fire ring and other campsites seemed to also have a small trash problem. I would highly recommend this campground to anyone looking to also explore the region, especially those with access to a boat, canoe or kayak as that is the popular activity both within and outside the campground. No cell service whatsoever for the both of us. The nearest town of Orr, MN, is about 15-20 miles away. I highly recommend visiting Voyageurs NP and nearby Superior NF has a couple of scenic attractions including Vermillion Gorge and Vermillion Falls. The LaCroix Ranger Station in Cook, MN, was very helpful with their suggestions of things to see and do in the area.
