East 96 Ranch Road

Great boondocking on state trust land so $21 annually for 14 days for the family permit. Lots of rain this winter so a real lush green Sonoran desert experience with lots of teddy bear & buckthorn cholla, saguaro, fish hook barrel cactus and many more. Campsites are in pretty good shape, but unfortunately there will always be some that don't pack it out very good. Trails haven't been too busy and are in pretty good shape for hiking and off- road in ATV & jeep. We have a big rig (61 ft connected) so we parked only about a 1/2 mile from HYW 79. Saw some bigger rigs than mine go way off the road to some real hidden gems, so scout around. Several campsites that go back at least 6 miles on E 96 Ranch Rd. We did look at several other locations within 30 miles to the North, (Perallta Rd, Gold Canyon, East Cottonwood) none compared to the beautiful scenery and privacy here! Not much for cell service here, but with starlink a wide open sky to pull in good internet speeds and wifi calling. Lots of cool history in the area including the Tom Mix Memorial 2.5 miles to the south. The old 96 Ranch homestead (on private land). Definitely will be back! Services for dump & fill about 10 miles North at the Rancho Sonora RV Park, $20 dump fee or daily FHU $45.

Perfect spot to spend one night after long day of travel. There is a cost of $21 for the year to access Arizona State Lands and get the permit but no one came by to check ours for the night we stayed here.

Being so close to the highway you have the expected road noise until late in the evening then it dies down.

We stayed in the first spot on the left just as you entered the cattle guard. It was level and easy in and out.

We did not drive any further down the main road.

Spotty Verizon reception, one or two bars intermittently at most.

I wasnt sure what i would find the coordinates are for 1 large spot there a re a few other spots before this 1. There is 1 spot neat the road and another large spot back further. There was a small wash before the back spot. Back spot can easily fit 3 to 4 rigs depending on size. There was a large dead animal cacras that was just bones and shot gun shells and some glass. There was also a large fire pit. No wifi but cell had 2 bars.
